Former Saints center Jonathan Goodwin signs a three-year deal with the 49ers, according to a league source. Adam Schefter 49ers reached agreement with center Jonathan Goodwin on a 3-year, $10.9 million deal, including $4 million guaranteed. |
Damn, thats big. Go get Olen Kreutz

Cant sign them all....Kreutz may be good. Unless Tennent wowed Sean.

With starting center Jonathan Goodwin still missing from training camp as the New Orleans Saints negotiate contract terms with the unrestricted free agent, Matt Tennant has joined the starting lineup.
Tennant has worked exclusively with the first-team offense in the first four practices, a major step up from the special teams blocking and backup center duties he had in his rookie season. While most around the organization expressed a strong desire to bring Goodwin, a three-year starter at the position and 2009 Pro Bowler, back into the fold, Tennant said he is preparing as if he will be the center when the Saints step out on the Lambeau Field turf in the Sept. 8 opener against the Green Bay Packers. "You really can't worry about (the Goodwin situation) at this point," Tennant said Monday. "Right now I'm the guy. Goodie could come back, and he might not. I have to understand that I could be the starter. I did the same thing last year in case someone got hurt, so it's not new." After working with backup quarterback Chase Daniel last season for the second-team offense and the scout squad, Tennant said snapping for Drew Brees has been a significant adjustment. "Drew runs a very fast-paced huddle, and he's so quick with his cadence," Tennant said. "The pace is just on a different level, and I'm constantly working to make sure I keep up with him." The Saints brought in Tennant with the 158th pick of the 2010 draft, after a standout career at Boston College that included second-team All-America honors in his senior season. He played with Matt Ryan, the quarterback for divisional rival Atlanta Falcons, in 2007. Tennant, 6 feet 4 and 300 pounds, said his time around Ryan in college was a learning experience for the current job with Brees. "I've been fortunate to have good quarterbacks behind me during my career, and Matt taught me a lot while we played together," Tennant said. "It's the same being with Drew. He makes you want to be the best." Saints right tackle Jon Stinchcomb said the offensive line is prepared to More of the story here; Center Matt Tennant makes the most of his stint as a New Orleans Saints starter | NOLA.com |
Good for him. The majority of our free agents did very well for themselves via free agency. It pays to be a Saint.

&@$%

Go get your money... to bad you won't be getting a ring this year, lol.
|
Oh well, cant get um all sign kreutz and go sign/ or resign a fb
|
Oh hell. No way we could have afforded that much for him though. But If Sean has faith in Tennant I have faith in Tennant
|
S**t!
|
Whatever. I'm confident in Tennant's abilities. BC linemen are fantastic and he's one of the best to come out of there in a while.

Well we all saw drew run for his life with Goodwin in there last year, breaking in a new center in Drew's prime doesn't sound good
|
" to bad you won't be getting a ring this year, lol."
It's a tough loss, but Drew would not of let him get away if he thought there would be a problem with his replacement. |
Damn that sucks. Hopefully the tent man can come through for us.
|
|
I like how we don't have hard feelings for players that leave. Do other teams react this way?
|
Good luck with the Niners Goodie.
I'm okay with giving Tennant a shot. He seems capable and this saves us some money we might need elsewhere. |
Unfortunately this is something all good teams have to deal with. Start keeping to many high dollar players and the team becomes deficient in other areas. Will there be a drop off at center? Probably, but I think it will be marginal. The main thing is overall, the Saints should improve.
|
I don't really have a problem with this at all. I think Tennant will play at least to par of Goodwin and it also saves us a bit of cap room. The only thing im really worried about is the first few weeks of the season as he kinds some of the details of playing center in the NFL.

Bummer
|
Not really happy about this but i can understand Goodwins choice to go get the money when he know he is getting replaced by Tennant sooner or later. Hope he does well for the 49ers thou.

i was dissipointed at first but life goes on. if u really look at this; it was told to us weeks ago when they let him shop. if u look at the money its peanuts for a good center. we could have managed that but payton wanted freash talent in there and i believe they him and loomis knew all along tenant was the man that could at no worst duplicate what goody provided.
|
It's not a big deal Goodwin stepped in and became a pro bowler after Jeff Faine left. I believe that Matt Tennant will do the same.In Sean we trust.

Ack - Sh-t, P-ss, F-ck & Cr-P!!!
We needed the stability! |
???? Matt will be our center for years !!!
|
Now he'll languish in obscurity and mediocrity. The 49ers are going nowhere anytime soon.

Facts are he knew his time was limited here. He could stay here for another year, get a chance at another ring and move on next year, or take the deal now and a make a couple extra mil over the next 4 years. I guess you can put a price on success.
|
Maybe he was hurting for money?
