Olin Kreutz
Wonder who he plans to visit and give the contender discount?
Did a little looking and all I saw was that John Clayton said he is considering retirement if no contender makes an offer to him IMO give it a day and the Eagles will sign him
I'd be all for it, but, like most of the big name free agents, he'll end up with the Eagles.
Kreutz looks like he wants a contender and 4 mil per annum...
Ravens, and maybe the Saints, would be in play, but he'll have to rethink the 4 million part... But alot of people could play Center between Nicks and Evans and make the ProBowl... |
How can we afford him and we couldn't pay Goodwin. How much was Goodwin asking for.

But if Tennant is performing in the camp as good as the more positive reports are claiming he is - then the more gap friendly and the more future-minded decision would be to let him play. At least he'll have all those veterans and pro bowlers around him. |
Sounds like a plan FinSaint. Might be better to go with the youth. I'm a little worried about the depth behind him thou.
Well, as discussed earlier... we do have two other centers on the roster at the moment even though they are more camp bodies than anything else: Cecil Newton and Ryan Taylor.
As for their talent level or overall abilities goes... who knows? At least Jeff Duncan of the TP mentioned Ryan Taylor as someone who could play both center and guard in his report of the UD rookies. Like you mentioned Crusader, not much depth or talent at center it seems. And just to add... as far as I know the plan was all along to go with Tennant a year from now, so if Goodwin wasn't available for a 1 year deal - as he surely wasn't - then I don't see this as a serious loss for the team's roster. He'll probably pick up the "game" faster as it is when put in real-life situations as to him watching Goodwin from the sidelines. |
This is where the "no practice in pads" rule is going to hurt the Saints. How are we going to get our rookies up to speed by the start of the season? It's like learning how to ride a bike by reading instructions in a book.
He might want to sign for less to be with the saints....but I doubt it, I think he just wants money.

Anyway, as for Tennant, his reps aren't going to go down with the introduction of the vets like with most other less experienced players since he is the No 1 center on the roster. And, furthermore, It'll surely help him to go against the "big dogs" not that SR isn't a whale of a man. http://media.nola.com/tpphotos/photo...1-standard.jpg As a further side note from the TP comments section, Quote:

Actually, the rules allow pads in pracice, but a very limited number of times for the entire season and the fines for infractions are in the 6 digit range.
OK. Well I think that the key thing for Tennant to improve on would be his timing with Brees and any line change duties that Goodwin had, neither of which really need pads to work on.
he is a bit long in the tooth but he just keeps chugging along. 129th consecutive starts
To me the question is, if we have money to spend on a big name free agent, would we rather spend it on Kreutz to replace Tennant (who may not even need to be replaced) or go after Lofa Tatupu to replace Scott Shanle?
Well...if he's coming in for a visit...
...he's only going to visit if there's a starting opportunity...
Kreutz would likely sign a one year deal; this would allow Tennant time to develop and provide a great insurance plan on this season and the investments (FA Signings) made for this season...
Good veteran presence if it's a 1 year mentality. I agree, we still need to upgrade that OLB position.
