New Orleans Saints hope bigger means better on defense
1 Attachment(s)
It's true what Gregg Williams said a couple of days ago, that the New Orleans Saints defense will look different getting off the bus.
What the Saints defensive coordinator didn't mention was that the Saints defense also might need a bigger bus, especially for the guys most responsible for grinding down and swallowing opponents' running games. When returning defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis, who checks in at 6-foot-1 and 307 pounds, is the next-to-smallest of the bunch on the current roster -- the only defensive tackle who weighs less is Mitch King (6-2, 280) -- it suggests the coaching staff and front office had something specific in mind when it addressed the position in free agency "I'm a better coach when they're big, fast and tough," Williams said. "But I've made a career on guys who are two inches too short, 10 pounds too light, a tenth of a second too slow. We've made a career on making those guys understand how to play, too. Just because we got bigger doesn't answer questions. We've made tremendous strides in two years on how we're building the defense around here. "Now these new, bigger, faster players are going to have to play our way. They're going to have to buy into what we're doing, and I have no questions that they will" Read the rest here New Orleans Saints hope bigger means better on defense | NOLA.com |
I can't wait to see this!!!

IMO weight is kind of over-emphasized. We just need more push, burst, smarts and presence in the middle. You could be a great small DT like LaRoi Glover or a great big DT like Warren Sapp. These players were great but it wasn't just their size or speed that made them great.

Did you look at that picture of Ellis standing next to Rogers? He looks like a child! Holy crap! Bigger bus, bigger beds, bigger restaurants, bigger doors.... Hell they may have to put in a Canadian Football League sized field just so's they can all fit between the sidelines at the same time.
|
Rogers looks to be in pretty dam good shape to....i think he will terrorize Matt Ryan on the field and in his dreams...lol...i hope he falls on Ryan multiple times...creating remember falls...
|
Damn! He is BIG
|
BIG-UN!!
|
With everything I read about our defense, I'm becoming more & more excited. Opening night can't get here soon enough.

Ellis next to Rogers
Saw this on another board.

Ellis is giving him the stare...
That's two big dudes!! |
Rogers is figgin huge! Did realize Sed was so short....
|
That picture shows why Ellis is a 3-tech and Rogers a NT. Ellis is listed as only 6-1 while Rogers is at 6-4 with about 50 lbs to his credit also.
Conversely Franklin is listed also at 6-1, but he also seems bigger than Ellis, and not just in the gut size. |
LOL Damn, Ellis looks like he's downfield.
But, like I said - Elli's sack total just DOUBLED. |
The angle it was shot from the length of the lens exaggerates the difference.
|
By the look of that picture Rogers seems to be in really formidable condition...
if I remember correctly last season in the Browns game, he looked more "flappy" than that..? |

I'm interested in this Tom Johnson also. The fact Cameron Wake blew up coming from the CFL gets me hopeful at the thought we could have found ourselves a hidden gem.
