Darren Sproles key to revamped Saints running game

METAIRIE, La. — Reggie Bush is gone, ostensibly to burnish the Miami Dolphins' offense and build his brand in South Beach. The New Orleans Saints are not crying in their crawfish ettoufee. Hardly — they believe their newly customized backfield is reason for Mardi Gras-like celebration in August.

I'm taking bets with Fins fans on how many games before he is injured. Consensus seems to be 4 games.

He did and, and as Xs and Ox expert Payton said, "I recognize that plays are important — but the players are more important."
I didn't realize Payton was an expert on Oxen. The man has no limits!

I love the fact there's no egos in our backfield and we should never hear anyone crying about touches. At Bama, Ingram had Richardson. PT had Bush and Ivory. Sproles had LT, Matthews, and Tolbert. Lots of depth and talent back there... if we're healthy, I believe we could be one of the best rushing teams in the league. Keep 'em fresh and pounding the rock... put those big boys in front of them to use.

That article is all good and dandy but I still thing Ingram will be the biggest difference maker in the backfield.

"Health" will be the biggest difference in our backfield.

Personally I think our run game will be very good with or without Darren Sproles. He simply adds another dimension.

With all the weapons we have he isn't necessary for our run game to be a success. Ingram, PT, Ivory (when healthy) and a side dish of Bell will give teams fits as is.

Key to a good running team is a good O- line... we have that with some depth, Monsters up the middle which will open up holes for for our backs.. then with Sproles doing his thing gonna loosen up the corners. Then as J. Madden would put it Bam with our receivers burning them deep... And I'm not saying this because Reggie's gone... but our offense is better this year...

You know what would be awesome? If each player's contract incentives were based on how the Saints overall running game did instead of each individual, create a Band of Brothers back there and we will get 3000+ rushing yards per season out of those 4.

Reggie won't get injured now...He's on natural grass ;-)

Just wait until the first time he runs out of bounds one yard short of a first down on a 3rd and 9, see if the Fins love him then.

Not saying Reggie is a bad football player because he is good.......but sproles is better

Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, Darren sproles, eventually Chris Ivory and i've been hearing a lot of good things about Joique Bell aswell, Man our backfield is going to be good!

Thats certainly what he implied, but its odd that his injuries so far have all been on grass fields.

He could be on a temperpedic. It won't matter. His knees are shot. Trust me.

Are we even sure he has figured out how to get to Miami yet? Can't get there going east and west from N.O.

All he has to do is face North and run backwards.

Mardigras9 08-12-2011 05:30 PM

If Sproles does what we think he can, it will be a long season for Reggie on the IR in Miami, watching sportcenter, seeing what he should have and maybe could have been.

Boutte 08-12-2011 05:47 PM

Reggie is a great 3rd down back. (When he manages to survive 1st and 2nd.)
