Who are your favorite longshots?
I have a few.
Joique Bell - He's having a PT (rookie) type camp. I think he may be the reason Lynell was released. Joe Morgan - I'm hearing he's a poor man's version of DeShean Jackson. He's impressing so far and zero'ing in on AA's spot Will Herring - OK, he's probably not a longshot for the roster, but is somewhat a longshot for a starting spot. I'm hearing/reding he's looked very good at SLB, as does Clint Ingram Tyler Lorenzen - He's put on about 30 pounds, and Drew said he's one of the most improved players from last year. Could be our #3 TE. |
Well I have no idea since I really don't get to pick up much news on the team so. I'll have to take your word on this one
|
One of the two rookie WR's that's been making noise in camp. Other than that, I just don't think there's many spots that are actually available.

Herring, Bussey, Amaya, Hall, Morgan, McDaniel, Bell, should all give our back-ups a run for their spot because of their special teams abilities. |

I had McDaniel, Herring, and Amaya making the roster... which is why I didn't consider them as long shot favorites. I'm just not overly excited about the rest of them... not even the Morgan/Fayson.
I do want to see what this Bell kid is all about... you guys have been talking about him since last year. I'd like to see what all this hype on Junior is all about also. |
Arrington, if he can stay healthy. My guys are already gone. I thought Carl Johnson could make the roster as a guard and C.J. Gable at least had a chance to make the practice squad.
|
I haven't seen any of these guys play or practice. So I have no real opinion. I do like what I've been reading about Herring. And I've got a soft spot for Bussey because of his freak injury history and the fact that he dropped so low in the draft because of unusual cicumstances.
|
Tom Johnson... just to keep up with the man-crush.

Chris Reis. He's on the depth chart now as FS behind Jenkins, but I think his main role is gunner on special teams. I'm glad to see him back on the roster so far this year. He'll forever be remembered for coming out of the scrum pile with the ball after the onsides kick during our superbowl victory.
|
Lorenzen. With his size and Graham's there are no LB's or DB's that can out jump them in the endzone or anywhere else for that matter.
|
I don't actually think Lorenzen is a long shot, I have heard coaches, the players and media all talk about him like he basically has the #3 TE spot locked up, and the way our offense uses TEs, we definitely need 3. Chris Reis is one of our only impact ST guys, so I don't think you can really call him a long shot, if the season is like the last two, he may just get a contract for that alone.
Joique Bell is a tougher proposition...4 RBs is a good number, with 5 we are now talking about taking a spot from somewhere we need more depth, like safety, however seeing as each of our 4 guys looks to get 10 touches a game, it isn't beyond the realm of reason that we keep him for depth. If I had to choose a long shot for the roster, it would be him. If we are talking about long shot starters, I am going with Martez Wilson, he has the talent to be an impact OLB, which we desperately need, I just hope he can pick up the defense and stay healthy in the preseason, and he should have a really solid chance of starting. |
WR Joe Morgan - He could be our starting second baseman for many years to come ... oh wait :). If he makes the team or the PS he has an instant nickname - "Big Red".
S Jon Amaya - could he be more than a throw in for the Reggie trade? Might be hard for him to make the team w/ special teams favorites like Prioleau and Reis also at safety. Oliver from the Chargers also has starting experience and probably will make the team, so Amaya could easily get squeezed. Hope he can bring some speed and play-making ability to the secondary and special teams. QB Sean Canfield - We need the QB depth during preseason games. With Chase Daniel reportedly playing better, we want to make sure he stays healthy too. Kind of pulling for Sean because Oregon State has a reputation for hard-working and reliable players like former Laker AC Green. CB Fabian Washington - This guy had a great career as a Husker. He might be a bit of a longshot with some of the depth we have at CB. Hope he can contribute ... we don't need another Bullocks. TE Michael Higgins - From Nebraska-Omaha (UNO Mavericks). Probably a camp body but UNO is due for another player to make it in the NFL like MarTay Jenkins. DE Jeff Charleston - This guy is the king of the preseason, plays his butt off and has somehow barely stuck around with us. Kind of a longshot with all the DL depth we have now. The guy has intangibles. |
Another one - OT George Foster - Big Red 2!!!
|
You can take Charleston off of your list, he already signed a tender this year, so he officially has a roster spot unless something insane happens.

I'm pulling for Tyler.
|
This doesn't exactly match the long shots you guys are talking about, but I am making my favorite long shot for the roster Darren Sharper.
|
I want Joique to make it if for no other reason than this:
Bell puts a move on somebody and breaks a long one... Announcer says, "Man, he really Joique'd THAT dude"... :bng: |

I am not hoping he returns. If we don't resign him its because Gregg thinks he has some potential in some of the young safeties he's brought in. I'm hoping the kids develop. McDaniel and Amaya are a couple other longshots I'd like to see make the team. Both are probably huge upgrades to special teams also. |

how bought isa abdul quddus

I'm also pulling for Lorenzen ... didn't realize he was a Iowa kid before playing at UConn. It would be nice to have him around as a more versatile tight end than Humphrey and also as an emergency QB so we can all sleep a bit better at night carrying only 2 QB's on the roster.

At this point with his history of injuries and how stacked we are at RB, I'm gonna say Chris Ivory lol. I know he was a beast last season and there may still be hope for him, but there's been lots of talk of him being put on the PUP list... we saw how that worked out for Sharper last year when his job was swiped lol.

I finally got mine, Mitch King #75. I got to see only a little bit of the game so he stuck out for me.

I thought King was really putting on a show last night as well. Of course, it was against their 2nd, and 3rd string offense...

He's got 2 speeds... Stopped, and full blast. |
What does his arm tattoos say? Everytime he sacked he did the bicep pose, and I couldn't read it.

Favorite Long Shots? Got to be the 2009 New Orleans Saints!!

That's classic..... Yeah, that guy looked like a beast last night.
