Do we want to look at additional options at LB while they are still out there?
Kirk Morrison, LB (Former team: Jacksonville): It looked like the Jaguars had every intention of hanging on to Morrison, who started every game for them in 2010 and made 89 tackles. Then, Jacksonville went out and signed Paul Posluszny instead. Morrison has started every game but one in his six-year NFL career and has averaged 120 tackles per season. Someone will take a shot on him soon.
Matt Roth, DE/LB (Former team: Cleveland): While Morrison may be the best inside linebacker available, Roth could hold the same title on the outside. And yet, the 28-year-old can’t find a home, despite coming off his best NFL season (86 tackles, 3.5 sacks). He reportedly just told teams he’d sign a one-year, $3-million contract, if anyone wants to offer. Lofa Tatupu, LB (Former team: Seattle): Are you catching the pattern here? There are some linebacker options out there. Tatupu, 28, made three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances after coming into the league in 2005. His production has fallen off since then, but he still started all 16 games last season and can be productive. Some decent names out there still looking for work. What say you? |
I really thought that was the one area that needed an upgrade and didn't get it. Maybe Casillas can stay healthy and show that he is the guy.

Doesn't hurt to look... though I am comfortable with our in house options. I don't think it's a big weakness as most people are making it out to be.

2010 OLB's - Clark, Shanle, Dunbar, Mitchell, Arnoux
2011 OLB's - Casillas, Herring, Wilson, Ingram, Shanle, Dunbar, Bussey We upgraded, quite a bit. |
I agree with the others. I think we fine with what we have.

TATUPU!!! Tatupu Vilma Casillas = OUTSTANDING!
|
Tatupa plays MLB, and with 4.84 speed I doubt he plays OLB.
No thanks, unless we lose Vilma. |

I do think that bringing someone like that in will cost us quite a lot. I could see Roth, he'd be a decent addition, but I'd be hugely disappointed if we brought in Tatupa. |
Did Morrison play under GW in Jacksonville?
I'd be concerned with Tatupu's knees holding up after the surgeries and what is has done to his mobility. I think the Saints already have the guys needed to field a solid LB corps 'cos they most likely won't have to be the superstars on that D. |
Ive said several times I would like to see us pick up another OLB

i am never happy so there.

I'm still convinced that with the addition of Franklin and Rogers besides Ellis, opposing teams will have to double team them or at least chip em which should put the DE's in more one on one leading to an increased pass rush and that should take some pressure off of the LB's.

I agree..like i said earlier...Shanle to the probowl!...lol |
Jaguars signed OLB/DE Matt Roth to a one-year, $3 million contract.
It's a strange fit as Roth was thought to be seeking a home in a 3-4 scheme. But with his market bottoming out for unknown reasons, the edge setter appears to have settled. Roth fills a need for the Jaguars, who have compiled just 40 sacks over their last 32 games, dead last in the league. He's an underrated pass rusher. I think we should sign EVEN MORE linebackers, and then Gregg Williams can run that formation that Cleveland used against us, ALL LINEBACKERS, put every linebacker on the roster out on the field at once. Hopefully that will daze and confuse opposing QBs into throwing at least 2 bizarre pick sixes per game, to the fattest, slowest, oldest, most unknown member of the team. OK, maybe not. But it sure seems to have worked for Cleveland when they played us, LOL.
