I liked it...wish that was Montana taking those hits:twisted:

I really enjoyed that agressiveness. That was som hard shots Smith took.

Even though Kaepernick was sacked 3 straight times, I was disappointed to see how much room he had to scramble and pick up yards on the ground at times...

I enjoyed watching him in that Boise State game last year. He's got the makings of a pretty good ball player. Some of the plays by the second and third stringers were giving me some flashbacks from last year, but I just kept telling myself, "It's only the backups." I was really impressed with the first stringers.

This Defense gonna be giving some teams T-R-O-U-B-L-E this year.. As with all gambling defenses there will be some holes at times.. But I saw speed last night. I saw quickness, we are so deep at all positions.. If our Linebackers can hold up we will be fine. Casillas looked very good he was all over the place.

It is nit in his makeup to "hold off"

GeauxForMore 08-13-2011 06:48 PM

Hey you got to practice the blitz and I enjoyed what I saw

QBREES9 08-13-2011 09:56 PM

thumbs Up - I really enjoyed that agressiveness

I came looking for a thread to talk about the defense, and I will...but this quote made me think, and it's early, so this was what I was thinking about Joe...then a comment on the defense.

As a southerner from Mississippi, I have no reason to be a Joe Montana fan. He went to college at Notre Dame, and then spent a career mostly in SF before finishing up in KC.

My point about Joe is that even though he tormented us so many times, being in the NFC West at the time, I can't help but like the guy. There are not too many rival QB's that I can say that about. Joe, IMO, was just one of those types of guys you just couldn't hate. He was that good, not only on the field but off the field, too.

My comment about the defense is this. I loved what I saw. The QB had zero time. I really doubt that we can do this in regular season, though, because if we can, we will be unbeatable.

I doubt it because it would just be too good to be true...but one can hope that what we saw Friday night will be what we see every game during the regular season.

Edit- Oh, yeah...one more thing. I heard recently where the line was 17-1 for us to win the SB. I was thinking that putting $1K down wouldn't be a poor investment. Now I'm even more stoked. I bet the line changed...if only for a week.

He cost us a couple of Super Bowl appearances imo.

Cest La Vie.....

The thing about the Montana-Young era 49ers...they beat us unmerciful, but the team was so classy (minus TO) it was hard to hate them...I mean I hated the team, but the players themselves are some of my all time favorites.

That's why the Falcons are great for us, they are so easy to hate all the time, I don't need to feel conflicted about it.

S Roman Harper on the defense being blitz happy: "I know Gregg Williams and I'm surprised San Francisco wasn't more prepared for it."

I know what you mean. I hate the Bears but can put one of their games on just because I like Brian Urlacher, same goes for the Patriots and Tom Brady.

Seer1 08-15-2011 09:23 AM

Off the field, no problem with Montana or Young. On the field, hated'em. Between them and that team from Texas, I almost quit watching football for a few years. (I was living in an area that would only show cow pie games.)

alexonfyre 08-15-2011 10:08 AM

As to the original thread topic. Of course he blitzed all night, if you are going to play in a 3G defense, you have to be able to blitz 10 straight plays, and these games are to determine who can best play in Gregg's system. Expect the same for the rest of the preseason. What you haven't seen yet is the Voodoo defense, which is the real killer.

Now this one took longer...

I'm thinking, "Why Miley Cyrus?"

I'm always trying to see past the smoke and mirrors. I really want to see if they can play straight up, mano-a-mano and get it done. They gave up 4-5 per carry. I don't like that at all, not even in pre-season. They looked very active, flying all over the field, scrapping and making plays. I want to see what happens when they have to dig in and play honest against a quality opponent. Can they pressure with four? Can they cover for more than 3 seconds? Its still early.

I don't imagine those questions will ever be answered for you, Gregg's entire gameplan is based on smoke and mirrors, and the guys he chooses for his defense are guys that can sell the trickery. I don't think there are any "straight-up mano-a-mano" set-ups in his entire scheme. If that is the type of football you want to see, you should probably watch the Jets or the Steelers.
