New Orleans Saints' Zach Strief gets shot at starting right tackle job
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints are considering a change at right tackle, where sixth-year pro Zach Strief was lined up with the starting unit during Sunday's practice. Longtime starter Jon Stinchcomb worked with the second team.
Coach Sean Payton said the team went into this training camp planning to create competition at the position and that Strief has earned the opportunity throughout his five years in New Orleans. http://media.nola.com/saints_impact/...5163-large.jpg Stinchcomb's performance dropped off in 2010 after he made his Pro Bowl debut in 2009, though that was mainly due to a serious quad injury that Stinchcomb played through. Strief, who re-signed with the Saints as a free agent two weeks ago, said he believes it was implied that he would be considered as a potential starter. "I hope so," Strief said. "I feel like if you haven't made enough of an impression to at least get an opportunity to start after five years, you wouldn't be here anymore. And like I've always said, my job as a backup here is to push those guys in front of me. I don't want to be a backup forever. That's my goal is to earn a job." read more |
Stench got beat a couple times in the last game. I think Strief has earned the right to compete. Nice job.

Strief didn't look so hot at RT either, but its only preseason game 1. I expect both to improve as camp continues.
Well now isn't this interesting ...
How long is it going to take for these guys to get "IT" together when we are throwing in another new starter? It's these kind of minor adjustments that can kill you.
Streif isn't new.
I like Stinchcomb as a starter but comeptition like this will help the team however it pans out. If Strief gets the job it will be because he is better. If Stinch keeps it I'll bet the competition will have made him raise his game.
YAY!!!!! I really hope he beats "STENCH" out.
I just hope the battle for the top spot makes them both play better.
I was wondering why they kept running to the right during the first few series.....
I like Strief a lot, on and off the field, he deserved this chance. I think both of those guys have the talent to be top-tier tackles, but Stinch has lost a step since his injury and has lived up to being "Stench" lately, if this can get him back to his Super Bowl form then even better.

The O-line looked out of sorts in general, not just a single person.

I don't think Stinch is 100%. I think the injury was worse than advertised.

When I saw the subject line on B&G and it read "New Orleans Saints' Zach Strief gets shot"
Quit scaring me like that! :) |
The job is yours to loose big boy!
If you didn't like Stinchcomb, you're going to hate Strief. There's a reason he backed up Stinchcomb for FIVE YEARS.
