The New Orleans Saints held their first day of practices Monday evening in Oxnard, Calif. Why California, you ask? Sean Pay explains in James Varney's wrapup:
Quote:
"Payton said the team's meals, meetings, practice and living spaces are all within 50 yards of each other, and that proximity, coupled with the superb weather, means the team maximizes its time in ways it could not in Louisiana."

Columnist Jeff Duncan writes his first postcard from the West Coast, where he talks to a New Orleans native who was thrilled his home team is in town.
In his column, Duncan reports that the Saints have vowed that cooler heads will prevail and distractions will not be a factor. Quarterback Drew Brees says the team has a "sense of urgency" after Saturday night's disappointing effort against the Houston Texans.
Mike Triplett put together some notes, including which three players left the field early with injuries, Joe Morgan meeting his namesake and highlights from drills.
