What we learned Sunday night

What we learned: Saints 40, Raiders 20 | ProFootballTalk

darstep 08-29-2011 07:07 AM

We also learned the Saints still can't tackle.
What's up with that? It's sickening! I can't stand it.
It's going to cost us games. %$#@!

Learned the offensive line has gelled. Looked good last night, with only a couple hiccups.

Marlboro Man 08-29-2011 07:33 AM

I saw that SR got a lot better penetration Sun. but only gave half hearted attempts to tackle the runner, but that hit he put on the QB was a kill shot fo sho.

I had two main concerns, The O-line and tackling.

Well, half my concerns were taken care of.

Anyone not impressed with Will Herring at all?

I didn't think we could sign a potential starting OLB worse than Shanle. I was so wrong.

Anyone starting to realize Patrick Robinson may be our best CB?

Put me in that number..Mr. Robinson will be starting before long...although Porter slipped on that pathetic field they have ...

I was glad to see Wilson playing better and Jordan as well..He was getting double teamed on some plays..

The slogan still stands...WRAP EM UP....i cut them a little slack because of the field conditions..

Our best cover corner. There were plenty of scouts making the Deion comparison(athletic wise) when he was coming out of college... just a little raw.

SapperSaint 08-29-2011 08:54 AM

Here is what I learned..

1. Bell is a RUNNINGBACK!

2. We are good if not great at the TE position. JG has a good shot at the Pro Bowl.

3. Shaun Rogers can PLAY, when he wants to. What a PLANT he laid on that QB!

4. Patrick Robinson is going to be good.

5. There is no way the defense is running at Full Speed. I full feel they are not going to "Show their Hand" to Green Bay. We will see the REAL Defense during that game. (Dear Lord, I pray I'm right)

6. Zach is just as good if not better than Stinch.

oh yeah...

7. Devery can still CATCH the BALL!

I agree with this. I was in the Astrodome years ago when the NFL canceled the Oilers game because of a bad seam in the turf and that's what eventually allowed Bud to move the team to Tennesse. So if a turf seam is bad enough to cancel a game, what could be good about dirt to grass that has a 2 inch height difference. No way can I fault Porter in missing that tackle coming off knee surgery and having to play on that field. Same with Colston not coming out of a break to cleanly. That field sucks this time of year and not much better after baseball season is over.

SaintsBro 08-29-2011 10:14 AM

One thing I did NOT learn last night, but realized it a couple of years ago, is that for whatever reason it is, Porter and Greer always look kinda bad in preseason...I cut them some slack, so I am not at all worried about either of them right now, except for the possibility of them being injured at a later date. But Robinson does look very good, just a little raw.

xan 08-29-2011 11:34 AM

Not impressed with tackling. Not impressed with "overpursuit". Not impressed with LB in coverage. Not impressed with Man coverage that starts 10 yards off the man.

Very impressed with O-line YESTERDAY. Let's see them in a real game.
Very impressed with Bell against their scrubs.
Liked what I saw with Robinson, though he is about halfway there.
Really liked Graham.
A bit disappointed Chase didn't hit those wide open receivers or avoid pressure.

SaintPauly 08-29-2011 11:54 AM

I am happy that we won... lmao.... Offense looked great last night. Daniels kind of took a step back imo, but he's just the back up anyway, so no harm, no foul. Bell looked GREAT, against mostly back ups, but good none the less...... The D-line were getting pressure on passing downs, but when the Raiders went to the ground, it got ugly. They killed us on screen passes all night, and imo, screens should be a specialty of our defense, considering they practice against our offense, and screen passes are one of our biggest assets. Missing Franklin, is going to hurt us, so I'm really hoping he gets back, before we go to Green Bay.

It's like my dad said, pre-season means squat. Nothing..... We won the first half last night, and that's winning a pre-season game to me.

Cory9289 08-29-2011 11:57 AM

Devery.

We need tackling fuel...

I see very competitive seconds and thirds at most positions. That's healthy but some of the cuts are going to hurt. I'm still on the Shanle stinks bandwagon this year. I just don't get it with his lack-luster play and the front-office fascination with him.

Porter seems apprehensive; holding back. He got a signature pick-6 pass his way early and he committed to the tackle after catch as opposed to the 6. Still love him.

Meachem haters? Where you at. He's a consistent presence.

Graham got off to a slow start but really shined after he got the hit-jitters out of the way.

I thought Swanson Miller may have killed that nameless quarterback until I saw him stir and his chest still rising and falling. Man, that had to hurt.

I'm onboard and feeling better about the LOOMING Sept 8 opener!

The Saints tackled better on Special teams. Go figure....

Beastmode 08-29-2011 05:13 PM

Graham is frightening. Chase. I've never seen a QB stand motionless in the pocket. It looks like some glitch on Madden.

From what I can tell from this forum you're often not correct.

Vilma speaks highly of Shanle. So does Sharper. Who the phuck are you to go against their word? A couch potato with a keyboard that couldn't tackle a dead poodle?

Try to not be a whiner your entire life, little boy. That is all you do here, ABOUT YOUR OWN TEAM. How lame and disloyal can you get?

Who taught you to be such a whiner?

You have moments where it appears your medication is working well and sometimes it appears the nurse forgets to give it to you.

But I do like Led Zeppelin alot!

Don't bully the keyboard bully, fellas! It tends to make them froth.

Doesn't change the fact that Shanle SUX. Just watch any game again. BUT,he don't get hurt! That's a fact.

What we learned from sunday night

Its better to keep 6 Running backs rather than 5 when Joique Bell is your number 6 Running back, guy looks real good

Crusader 08-30-2011 03:28 PM

We got scouts that can find a runningback anywhere it seems.

I thought Rodgers would kill Boller when he hit him...

Robinson looks really good. We are deep at a positon than long was our weakness.

Jenkins will make us forget about Sharper.
