FastForward: --> Swanson Miller

I'm not as analytical as most here. I just call what I see like I see it.

This morning I re-watched the second half of the Raiders game just to see what the seconds and thirds look like. Game over, we won, so I'm not watching it with the intensity of a first-time viewing. You notice more detail the second and third time around. Anyway...

Swanson Miller was only in for one set of downs as far as I can figure. Starting at 6:35 of the 4th quarter. Last defensive stand in the game.

Now, knowing that he was facing only his caliber of offensive lineman, the guy pulled off 2 sacks and 1 hot pursuit of the play in 3 downs.

If he gets playing time against the Titans, AND gets 1 sack. I call him a keeper. We only managed 3 sacks in this game and 1 came from Casillas. The other two were Swanson Miller sacks.

We are either going to keep this guy or we will FACE this guy. Lord, I hope we KEEP him!

Just a thought. Bash me if you like for my inexperienced eye.

So the staff isn't behind Tom Johnson or Mitch King? Link?

I'm not sure there's a single soul on this board that's on the Swanson Miller hate wagon. I root for everyone wearing a Saints jersey... even Will Herring. Hopefully he'll stop sucking. And if there's a Scott Shanle fan club, I'm in it too.

Didnt say hate anywhere in my post ...just never gets any mention....like some of the other DTs that aint done squat..

He has a lot of potential, I hope we can sneak him on the roster somehow.

What other DT's are you referring to?

Well said. While Shanle is probably the weak link among our starters, I'll cheer for him on gameday just as hard as I cheer for anyone else.

If Miller beats out King and Johnson, he's earned his spot and I'll cheer like crazy for him too.

I see your point. We've seen very little of Tom Johnson and he receives a good amount of praise and attention.

On that same note, Junior Galette hasn't done jack squat either and he receives a lot of mention. See my point? Some people just like some more than the other... that doesn't mean we aren't also rooting for them.

He recovered a fumble..and has gotten some pressure ..He is a DE/LB...Swanson is DT.:beatnik:

Nevermind you completely missed the point when I brought Galette into the conversation.

Anyway, Mitch King has performed well also. Tom Johnson looked quite disruptive until he got injured. So if we want to play that game, they haven't exactly done "jack squat".

I'm probably guilty of "banging the drum" when it comes to Tom Johnson, and I'm not apologizing about it one bit.

TJ is head & shoulders above both King and Miller, and if you're afraid of facing Miller on some other team if the Saints cut him... well I'm terrified of the Saints letting TJ slip from their hands and having to face him down the line for seasons to come.

And to the point of which players have the support of the coaching staff - this is from SP's practice recap from 8/16:

Quote:

How did Tom Johnson show up in the game before he got hurt?

“He did well, he did very well. You know, if we were identifying a few players that stood out, he would have been one of those players, he was one of those players.”

Has he kind of flown over the radar because of Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin?

“I think a little bit, Tom Johnson is one of those names to begin with as under the radar. But he’s had a good camp, and he’s smart. He was real good the other night in his snaps and hopefully we can get him back as soon as possible.”

Payton Recaps Tuesday's Practice

I know it was after the SF game and he hasn't played since, but that's more praise than I've heard of either Miller or King.

Also, I can't get past the fact that those plays where Miller got his sacks were really weird with him getting of the line very slow and the O-Line virtually not blocking him... I wonder if it was by design? I personally don't think so, and that would not happen against the 1st string guys.

OK. Clearly I've chosen my horse in this race and I agree with you guys that I'll cheer for any and all of them if they get to wear the black & gold jersey.

No i got the point about Galette...thats why i said he recovered a fumble and got some pressure...King looks good at times as does Miller...T.J aint played much so its up in the air on him...cant make the club soakin in the tub..

homerj07 08-31-2011 06:34 PM

ANy word on when Johnson will be back??

AlaskaSaints 08-31-2011 06:36 PM

Our latest blowout in recent memory, pre-season or not, and a guy gets two sacks in 3 plays.

That's where I'm all in.

Agreed. We (collectively) will back whomever they put on the line, for sure.

Also agreed, it could be a fluke. Tomorrow night will tell for sure. Then the sacrificial lambs get cut away to create this year's Championship team.
