Why we win / Why we lose
It's time to tap the infinite wisdom of our members. Let's hear three reasons why you think we win or lose tonight.
Win - Sacks, hurries, knockdowns are limited. Protect Brees! Run the ball down their throats. I mean 120yds or more. Malcolm Jenkins has an interception. Lose - Minus in the turnover category. 3 and out on the first three drives. Rodgers is allowed to make plays with his feet. |
You got it protect Brees and the Defense has to perform at a high level.

Why we win...
Turnovers Our O-line Our D-line Why we lose... Turnovers Our O-line Our linebackers |
why we win
we score more points than they do why we lose we score less points than they do :) I couldn't resist |
Lose: Lack of pressure from the base defense.
Win: Ingram and PT silence the crowd. |

C'mon now. You guys aren't playing by the rules....

We usually struggle against a 3-4 defense and normally it's because Brees and Payton aren't patient enough to just take what the defense will give. If we take what the defense will give which will likely be short yardage plays and not try to force the ball downfield we will win. Sure we can take an occaisional shot down the field but to win this game we need to run the ball and take the dump off passes not force a throw into double coverage or stand in the pocket too long waiting for a play to develop.

Why we win:
Brees protects the ball Defense forces GB out of running game Secondary actually tries to tackle instead of diving trip Why we lose Any failure of one of the above |
Win:
Brees Takeaways/sacks Special teams Lose: Brees O-line Special teams |
I missed the criteria of 3 reasons,
Lose: Lack of pressure from the base defense. Kicking. Kasay misses beyond the 35 more than once Fumbling. Ingram is a rookie. Win: Ingram and PT silence the crowd. GW gambles and wins. Turnover. Penalties. GB gets flagged on critical 3rd downs Share Share this post on Twitter! Facebook! |

I totally forgot about Kasey. That is a major worry for me. I just hope it doesn't come down to a kick. |
Have to establish the run, and have to stop there run. Otherwise Rogers picks us apart or Brees picks them apart.
|
the run game REALLY needs to be on tonight!! At LEAST 120 yrds. That will take pressure off Drew
|
Run the ball. Stop the run. Don't turn the ball over.
|
Why we win:
A player we weren't expecting makes a huge play (think Sproles getting a touchdown on a screen pass). 2 or more sacks and 2 or more takeaways John Kasay does what is expected of him Drew Brees completes over 65% of his passes Why we lose: Trouble stopping the run Trouble protecting Brees |
I think being able to run the football (and keep Rodgers off the field) is exceptionally critical. The Saints probably have the biggest offensive line in the NFL (maybe the biggest in the history of football), so the ground game against the Packers should be key.
|
Win:
Team goes back to 2009-2010 pregame chant. S**t gets team hype. Lose: We stick with that off beat crap from last year. |
We're going to win with great offense and great defense.
We are not going to lose. It won't happen. Enough said. |
P.T.-- -- 45 yds rushing
18 yds recieving ingram --66 yds rushing 14 yds recieving sproles--28 yds rushing 47 yds recieving 218 all purpose brees----268 passing 486 yds total green bay-359 total yds and when i wake up in that S%$t hole with chickin heads swaying in the dark and the voo-do lady after me she also said rogers will have some type of foot injury early that caused a fumble recovery by NEW ORLEANS,it all comes true saints offense pounds out the win in a slugfest 37-34 |
In order for us to win I think we absolutely have to get early and often pressure on Rodgers. If he has any time at all I believe he will carve us up.
We also have to catch the football. Our offense is designed to march up and down the field but along the way we'll have lots of 3rd and shorts. This has routinely been the area where we could on Lance Moore, but without him we'll need Colston, Meachem, & Henderson to step-up. Colston has had the dropsies the last couple of seasons and we all know that Henderson isn't very reliable in the short-passing game. We need our WRs to catch EVERYTHING thrown their way tonight if we expect to keep drives going and run down the clock. |
Win:
Running Game Defense and Secondary Play Calling Lose: Play Calling (Giving up on ground Game) If we get behind 2 scores (Running Game disapears) Defense is not as good as we hope/think it is |
TO WIN -- these are exactly the same as any game in the current Saints era:
- the "chess match" of Drew moving the opposing defense around the field to where he wants them, then exploiting it (Clay Matthews, the Packer secondary, etc) - offensive line shows up - Payton coming up with something unpredictable that works - going for it on 4th, onside kick, 3 TDs by the unknown fullback, etc LOSE - these are exactly the same as any game in the current Saints era - Drew with the turnovers, "forcing" it too much - sloppy tackling - poor special teams |

I don't care how or what... or even ughly. Win - no matter how we have to win... when the smoke clears the score showing us with more points gets us the win. |
Win-No turnovers.....Oline protects......Dline applies pressure consistently
Lose-Lose containment on Rodgers....Turnovers......Unable to protect Drew |
The other team's QB must go down, and he must go down hard.
We need to run for 100+ and we need to get pressure on Rodgers. I think it's that simple. |
