This is ridiculous!!
This whole forum needs to calm down!
We just lost to the defending champs, opening night, after they unveiled their Superbowl banner, in friggin Lambeau Field...and we only lost the game by one posession...one yard, at the end of the game. AFTER we gave up a turnover on a great drive, and AFTER giving up the second longest kick return TD in NFL history. How does that translate to "our defense sucks"? WE scored 34 pts, and everyone is impressed with GB's defense?!?!? Is 8 points the difference between Great and Suck?!?! IF the ball bounces our way one or two more times (like it did in '09), we win the game! I just cant believe all the hate and misery and gnashing of teeth on here after one game that really wasn't that bad. |

Yes, it was that bad.

Everyone should not be calm
Greenbay is a great team, we all knew that but #19-20 offensive line # 24-25 running the ball IF we can't stop the run vs Greenbay we have some serious problems, because that means almost everyone can run and pass against us. ...and the only reason we came within 1 possession and 1 yard is because our offense rocks, and brees rocks, even without moore. IF matty lice was there it would have been a blow out,,,,, again,,,, |
Ok. One more time for the cheap seats, lol:
O line and D line need time to gel LB's need exp and time to gel Robinson will be fine. Besides, Brees looked better than he did in our Superbowl season. |
Casillas looked good for the first couple drives, then he just kind of disappeared.
He had great speed on the sack and rocked Aaron Rodgers on the next play aswell. Props to Malcolm for laying Donald driver out, my ribs hurt just watching that hit! Other than that it was our O that I was impressed with, yeah the lack on short yardage conversions was annoying, but if our defense pulled it's head out of their ass maybe drew wouldn't have been put in that position so many times. We learnt, get ready for the bears in dome Lance Moore get healthy now! |
It might just depend on what color glasses you're looking thru ... But Thursday night the Defense graded out no better than they did in the Seattle game last year ... will they play better against lesser teams ... no doubt ... But unless some major gelling takes place Bree's and company will be called upon to operate at a very high level to be in games against better teams to end up with a win ... They didn't / couldn't cover the receivers ... Harper looked absolutely lost in coverage but he did supported the run well ... They didn't / couldn't apply pressure with DL and most of the blitzes where broadcast and handled ... Tackling ... nuff said.
We have done a good / great job bringing in personal to upgrade the defensive unit the results have not changed to any extent to date ... Will Smith make that big of diff when he's back in 2 weeks ... Remains to be seen. Hope springs eternal in this Day One 67 Saints fan ... But as of right now / at least Thursday night performance ... I would have to say Williams was out coached or his unit was just not prepared ... Not because of the final score but how in the process of getting there the Packers made The Saints defensive unit look downright lost and over matched ... Kind Sorta just like Seattle last year. I'm all in with Saints and have been since 09/67 ... just my view of it is what it is. :bng: |
I'm by no means Hating, it was a great game and we did lose to the best team in football. Brees and the O looked great, we did put up a lot of points on a very good defense. But you can't tell me you not starting to be concerned about our defense and the lack of tackling. I sure as hell am, this has been brought up before and still has not been fixed. Gelling has nothing to do with tackling

If that game is played in the dome - Drew is out of the game. The O-line did not protect well enough & Drew got hit too much. BUT.... OUR BEST D-LINEMAN was suspended 1 week before the game. Put Will SMith back in the game & I see thigs bouncing differently!! |
The loss hurts more because it was the NFL opening game on nat TV when everyone and their grandma's sister was watching. Things will be ok.
|
I noticed that most of the ones freaking out and the ones who are near totally oblivious to most things about the team in the past 6-10 years are the ones who have posted under a hundred posts or a few over.
I think we have to realize that this clowns or on the bandwagon and ready to jump based on that game. So before getting into a 'discussion' or debate with someone we should take a look at how many posts they have made and decide weather or not it is worth while even holding a online/forum conversation with them because chances are they won't be around to much longer anyways. lol. |

BTW, did anyone notice Driver was a non-factor after the hit Malcolm in the Middle laid on him? BOOM-YOW!!! Gotta love it!!!! |
The cleats in the 1 half could have easily cost us the game. Did they change them at halftime?
|
No
|
I've been a member of this board for several years before they changed the format, and reset all the post counts. I have posted less than 100 since then precisely because there are so many o0n this board that freak out and start hating and spewing vitriolic doom and gloom whenever the saints lose.
|
One other thing, since the NFL went to this opening night format, the defending Champions have never lost. In 7 years they have won every time. So, am I worried about our defence? Sure but not greatly, not yet and heres why. We have a lot of new pieces there, there was no off-season to speak of as far as OTA's etc go,so I don't think they are quite working together like our Offense is. Watch the games today and I think around the NFL, you are gonna see lots of sloppy play.

One positive on Robinson, he can tackle. I mean absolutely no yards after catch. It's watch happens before the catch that concerns me.

Everyone needs to calm down; we're all fans of the same team here.
We should be aiming our hatred towards fans of the Failcons... just my opinion |

I'm DONE making excuses! We now fall into the bottom 50% of NFL Teams that have played one game. 0-1. That's the bottom line.
I'm tired of placing high expectations on G.W., and having his mind show up about half the time. Yes, we will gel. But I want my jello LAST WEEK not NEXT week. We (collectively) make excuses for this team at every loss and I'm tired of it. Like Dallas, we've got the talent, and all the HYPE. Which is all we got until we start producing wins against every team, division, conference, and even intra-conference. G.W. - Lead or get out of the way! Alaska |

seriously, I see your idea. you're saying those who have the least invested are most likely to jump ship. dont know. I think there's a distinct possibility we could suck this year, if our offense isnt good enough to counter our weak sister defense. But Im not going anywhere, in fact I'll be there no matter what. I dont know how that relates to my post count. |
Yeah, I kinda freaked out too, and I've been here since Christ was a Corporal.
|
I have travelled from the UK to see the Saints play on many occasions, the first time I saw them was back in 1992, so I guess I can count myself as a good Saints fan even though I don't get a lot of time to post on here! :)
