Bears Urlacher status for Sunday unknown

1 Attachment(s)
Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has left the team to deal with a private matter that involves his mother Lavoyda Urlacher.

According to league source, the team is expected to give Urlacher as much time as he needs.

As of now, Urlacher's status for Sunday's game in New Orleans against the Saints on Sunday is uncertain.

"Our thoughts and prayers going out to Brian and his family" read a tweet from Bears quarterback Jay Cutler."

Urlacher's absence could cause some problems for the Bears as he was a huge part of the dominating Chicago defense that shut down the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday. The Bears linebacker racked up six tackles, one fumble recovery, and one interception.

Drew Brees and the Saints would feel a little bit of relief not looking at the center of the field on Sunday and seeing number 54 lurking around. Only time will tell though.

Brian Urlacher rushed out of town Tuesday to attend to a family emergency in Arizona involving his mother, the Tribune has learned.

Smith Urlacher is expected to be away from the Bears for several days and his status for Sunday’s game against the Saints is unclear. Teammates, the coaching staff and members of the front office are aware of Urlacher’s situation but no further information was available Tuesday night.

While this would help us in the game if he could not play I would hate for it to be for such reason. Hope his mother is ok!

strato 09-14-2011 11:45 AM

Yeah saw this earlier...hope she is ok...

Halo 09-14-2011 12:04 PM

Honestly I'm sad to hear this. I'm sure the situation is bad. My prayers are with him.

If he's out for Sunday, this could have a huge impact on the game.

jnormand 09-14-2011 12:07 PM

Prayers for he and his family. Personally I would rather beat the Bears with him than without him.

Budsdrinker 09-14-2011 12:10 PM

Hopefully she will be alright but regardless we need to prepare as if he is playing. The last time we didn't prepare for a player to play, he played and we went from 13-0 to 13-1.

Yep those tricky frikin Cowgirls..

saintfan 09-14-2011 12:33 PM

He plays for the other team so we hate him, but its players like Brian who make the NFL what it is.

My prayers are with him too.

Belair57 09-14-2011 12:36 PM

Hopefully shes not laying on her deathbed and her last words are " Go out and punish them saints, I want you to win one for me"...Holy cow Urlacher would be in beast mode, hopefuly he left because she just needs him to co-sign for a loan or something

crawgator 09-14-2011 12:42 PM

As my prayers go out to the Urlacher family.. I just hope he's not there for the game

Rugby Saint II 09-14-2011 01:25 PM

It's got to be tough on the man. I hope she's alright.

Budsdrinker 09-14-2011 01:27 PM

I just read that Urlacher's mother past away. Sorry for your lost Brian.

strato 09-14-2011 01:49 PM

Sorry to hear this..prayers from us Saints fans to him and his family.

Crusader 09-14-2011 02:07 PM

Rest in peace Mrs Lenard.

saintfan 09-14-2011 02:37 PM

51? Oh man that's terrible. I will say a prayer for Brian and for his family.

ELROCKSTEADY 09-14-2011 02:47 PM

It sucks, but whatever he decides. It seems odd, even though the report says there is no foul play. I can say I hope he plays but im sure the troops will be there in full force if he does not play.

DeepChicago 09-14-2011 02:58 PM

I was just lurking these boards to see what the opposition has to say and I'm impressed with what I've seen so I decided to sign up!

Here's to a good game and NO INJURIES!

Welcome!..

My prayers go out to Urlacher on the loss of his mom. Regardless of my feelings towards the Bears, it's always sad when someone passes away. RIP.

73Saint 09-14-2011 04:26 PM

I heard this on my way to work this morning. Prayers to B.U. and family...

But, we need to plan on him playing, and playing lights out. It seems like every time there is even an inkling of a player missing a game against the Saints, not only do they play, they have an ALL WORLD game against us.

ChrisXVI 09-14-2011 05:57 PM

This is awful news. My thoughts and prayers are with the Urlacher family. I can only imagine how proud his mother must have been of her son and I hope Brian takes solace in that. RIP Mrs. Urlacher.

homerj07 09-14-2011 06:50 PM

Well that sucks - This is not something I would wish on my greatest enemy

Saintsfan4ever 09-14-2011 07:25 PM

Wow, hate hear about that. Urlacher is great linebacker and stand-up guy. I was looking forward to seeing how our offense matched up against Urlacher and the rest of the Bears defense. We can't be the best unless we can beat the best, and Urlacher is truly one of the best in the game.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Urlacher family.

neugey 09-14-2011 10:15 PM

My thoughts go out to Brian and his family during this difficult time.

arsaint 09-14-2011 10:31 PM

Sorry to hear this. Prayers to his family...

The situation is very delicate, obviously, but I am told Brian Urlacher plans on playing for #Bears Sunday at #Saints

This guy is one of the main coverage people for the Bears. It does not seal the deal by any means, but i guess its an update

QBREES9 09-14-2011 11:52 PM

My prayers go out to the Urlacher family. Brian is class guy and a great LB. Brian your Mom must have been very proud of you. God Bless you and your family.

I really had no doubt that he wouldn't play. I hope our team is fully prepared to see him out there. Like 100% prepared, because ever since that "cowgirl" fiasco from Super Bowl season, when they say a player is NOT going to play, I believe the opposite.

WhoDat!656 09-15-2011 12:21 PM

Urlacher back with Bears; team expects him to play Sunday.

NFL Network said he'll play.

st thomas 09-15-2011 01:17 PM

the loss of of a family member is a difficult thing for imediate family and friends, brian we love u here as NFL fans. You are a great player and what ever u decide we will honour. god bless u and ur mom. and a prayer is in order from me.

Mardigras9 09-15-2011 01:29 PM

Never a doubt he'd play. Bear defense will be pumped for their teammate. Cutler still sucks. Motivation is powerful, as we know. Saints should win anyway, just need to come to play.

SaintsBro 09-15-2011 01:51 PM

I am reminded of that famous game right after Brett Favre's father died, when he (Brett) played absolutely lights out and was completely unstoppable all night. I don't doubt that Urlacher plays on Sunday, and the Saints had better be prepared for an emotional, pumped-up opponent in the Bears defense, who I'm sure will be charged up and raring to go because of this.
