Pierre Thomas - The Saints kept the right guy
As the New Orleans Saints cleared out their lockers a few days after their shocking playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas talked to reporters about their uncertain futures in New Orleans.
The Saints kept the right guy. While former No. 2 overall pick Bush was a non-factor on Sunday as his new team, the Miami Dolphins, fell to 0-2, the perpetually underrated Pierre Thomas, undrafted out of Illinois in 2007, helped the Saints (1-1) win a game they had to have against the Bears. Watch him on screens, though, and he provides a textbook example of how to set up blocks and make the most of plays. His 12-yard gain in the second quarter was the perfect illustration, as he slowed down to wait for the linemen to get in front of him, found the gap they created and picked up a key first down to the Chicago 18. Pierre runs with so much heart when he plays, People underestimate his size, everytime he gets hit he keeps trucking for more yards and his balance is incredible. We definitely kept the right guy, that screen play they mention for 12 yards was what Pierre does so well, the guy is a tough football player

Pierre needs more touches. You can tell he's dying to run.

Loves me some Pierre Thomas!! Runs hard, blocks hard, plays hard. Good all around guy!!
|
Yep, and several of us knew it a lonnnnng time ago Guerry.
He's the most under-rated RB in the NFL IMO. |
There is a reason he kept other fan favorite Mendenhall on the bench at Illinois.
|
Pierre runs very hard these days. It is obvious it is him with the ball even if you can't see the number because he is the one whose legs keep moving and churning until he hits the ground.
PT is gaining my respect back quickly. |
PT may not be a burner but he has some of the best instincts as a runner and his field vision at time is amazing. But the thing that stands out the most to me is the simple fact he seems to love the game and bought into giving 110% way back when. He plays with heart.
I want to see him stay at 60% of the carries. The team just seems to play better with him in there. They rally around him. |
I loved this article. You have to read the whole thing. If we would have had PT in the playoffs last year, things would have been different...
|
Man Pierre balance is off the chain, he runs the screen better than any back, he has a slippery still and is tough so yes we kept the right one baby!!

Jon Gruden has been saying this for years. No one tell Canton... he may still be in denial. |

How will it end up at the end of the year?
1. Pierre has the 2nd most carries on the team but is 1st in yardage. 2. Pierre leads the team in carries and yardage. |
Payton is either saving or pacing PT for some reason.
He is the most seasoned back and has better field vision than Ingram. That may change at some point but for now, PT should be getting the bulk of the carries. I remember in the Superbowl, Pierre had like a 17 yard run, breaking 3-4 tackles and the entire team started playing at a whole new level. He goes out and does his job without a lot of fan fare, and does it very well. Ingram needs to take notes from PT on how you set up blockers and cut-back NFL style. I hope Ivory is looking too. |

I for one am glad that Ingram has someone like PT to learn from and take tips from... it'll only make him into a more well rounded runner and - dare I say - hopefully that elusive "complete back."
|
Look, I was always skeptical of PT. I thought he was a great back, but was too injury prone and would never be able to carry the load. I was wrong. He is one of the most complete backs I can remember, and he seems to have rebounded from his injury. Hopefully with our stable of backs we can keep the load off of him and have his fresh legs throughout the playoffs. In a system like ours a back like PT can contribute at a very high level for a long long time. i am glad we decided to pay him.

Pierre Thomas best man for the job. In Loomis I trust.

PT is a beast and Payton is allowing him more time to get stronger and better than before. We actually have RB's this year and Payton can use him and rest him as needed. Brees is the reason so many of our guys are underrated! He makes them ALL look great, but not one stands out because he can use any of them as a weapon against the other team. Let them keep on underestimating PT, he's our secret and I love my 23 jersey:)
