This Sunday marks the 5 year anniversary of "the block heard round the world." this got me thinking, what has been your favorite play (I was going to ask most important play, but that has to be the SB INT hands down.) mine has to be the Hartley field goal in the NFCCG. I remember being at work, with my head down, co-workers ready to heckle me. All I heard was Joe Buck say " and it's good. The saints are going to the Super Bowl." I leapt from my seat and darted through the hallways like a maniac. The radio call from Henderson still gives me chills. That may forever be my favorite moment as a saint fan.

Definitely the kick that put us in the Super Bowl. I'm a grown man and I balled like a baby, and whenever I stop and think about it or watch replays of it I get all teary.
The rest are mostly random. I remember the playoff game against the Iggles in the Dome when Deuce carried the entire philly defense on his back for about 20 yards. LOL PT's catch and run for our first even SB touchdown. Hakim dropped the ball! Jerry Fontenot pulling and leveling people 20 yards down field. Truley tossing the Jets helmet. Porter's pick six against Manning. Deuce plowing over some random Failcone at the goal line after a long run. The first home game after Katrina. There are tons more of course, but these are some that come immediately to mind. |
The on-side kick in the Superbowl, along with Lance Moore's catch for the 2 point conversion, along with the pic-6...

1-- chills down your spine 2-- teary eyed 3--the best feeling in the word (besides sex)= questionable u will never be a saints fan. |
"The block heard round the world" first on my list. I knew the Saints were back for good then when that one play re-infused life into the saint nation. Hartley's kick in the NFC second because the impossible became a reality.

You guys are making me cry. I have to admit the Porter interception I came unglued!! I thought back all the paper sacks, the bum phillips, Kenny Stabler, Archie Manning days we finally did it and HELL does freeze over. The offside kick I will never forget. I can't watch the porter interception on youtube without getting a little teary eyed. Like the one guy said
if u still don't get 1-- chills down your spine 2-- teary eyed 3--the best feeling in the word (besides sex)= questionable u will never be a saints fan!! In 2009 you can't tell me we were destined to be Super Bowl champs. We pulled more rabbits out of our asses than any team I have ever seen. WHO DAT!!! |
Porter INT vs Colts
Porter INT vs Vikings |
Porter
Those were Hall of Fame interceptions. I just want to see more!!! Alaska |
Dempsey's field goal -the reason I became a Saints fan to begin with.
The onside kick. |
WOW - Hard call.
"THE" kick - ok The INT at the SB - ok The INT at the SUper DOme - ok BUT... The balls it took to kick an onsides kick at the start of the second half of the FRIPPEN SUPER BOWL!!! OMG - that has got to be one of the besy plays in football....EVER!!!! |

Warning, Foul Laguage. But it's a classic!

John Gilliam returning the 1st ever Saints touch of professional football for a touchdown.

I agree with the blocked kick, the Porter INT, onside kick (that I called btw, and I have witnesses)...
But one more stands out for me, and that was January 13th 2007 when Deuce McAllister literally ran OVER the Eagles in the Superdome and sent us to the NFC Championship. Deuces knees were all busted up, he was approaching the end of his career, and he was being over-shadowed by rookie Reggie Bush, but that day belonged to Deuce and up to that point that was my happiest day as a Saints fan. |
I remember driving in from Houston in the middle of the summer of 2009... Bobby and Deke were doing one of these mid-summer shows when there is nothing really to talk about and were asking the question.... What would be more significant to you
1. Winning the NFCCG at home 2. Winning the SB 3. MNF September 25 2006 I called in and said nothing would ever compare to #3.... My son and friends said thats because you have not experienced #1 and #2... Well now I have..... As glorious as they were, that Monday Night can NEVER be topped.... It was so much more than football... I remember my son saying "Dad you are not going to get all mushy and cry or something or you?" and I said Naaa..... Then when GD played "The Saints Are Coming" the lady in front of us (we have sat next to each other since the Dome opened) turned and with tears rolling down her face said "I never thought we would be in here... together.. again".... and I friggin lost it.... and didnt regain it through the entire pre game... When they showed Hollywood Joe on the screed... when the players ran out on the field.... when Irma and Alan played the National Anthem... I was teared up and crying..... Regained my composure when the football started and when Gleason blocked the punt it started all over again.... A bunch of us huddle jumping up and down... everyone was crying... As much as I disliked him, I remember Michael Ervin (Sp??) when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame... Here is a Cow girl..... his theme was that football was so much more than just a game and he said something like... "I was there in New Orleans when they re-opened the Dome... The emotion of that stadium and how it helped to bring that community together... How it helped those people get away from their problems if just for awhile... DONT TELL ME ITS JUST A GAME"...... something like that And it was for me and I am sure all of us.... Great memories |
Not really a play, but Jim Everett's beatdown on Jim Rome was friggin' classic!

I sat quiet for most of that game. Smiling...and crying...yeah, it was better than the Super Bowl...or at least different... Because it actually had very little to do with football. It was about my people - our people. That I love sports and football and the Saints, and that the Saints could be the thing that everyone rallied around was just beautiful. For sure I will never forget the sights and sounds of that game. When Gleason blocked that kick...that place erupting the way it did...all those images of Katrina went through my mind in a quarter of a second, but there are my guys, celebrating in the end zone...and there are my people, making so much noise they heard us in Cuba...I hugged my 60 pound lap dog and cried like a baby. Man what a night. |

One more memory was that on that night they had valet parking for the players directly under the ramp at Gate A... My son and I found our way to the front of the barricades and I just remember the looks on their faces getting out of there cars...... Zoned in... some of them were loose and would slap hands with us but most were just zoned in.... I was next to a Failclown fan walking in... actually a decent guy who was talking just a little smack.... I said "Dude... you are not winning tonite....I don't care of you had the 85 Bear defense and the Patriots offense.... there is no way you are winning tonite"..... |
