Who dat chant Steve Gleason

Sucks man, wow. Wish him the absolute best. Terrible news. Thanks for the plays Steve!!!

Today is the five-year anniversary of the highlight of Steve Gleason's football career -- his epic blocked punt against the Atlanta Falcons in the official reopening of the post-Katrina Superdome. It was a seminal moment in his life, the exclamation point to an inspirational eight-year career that saw him rise from relative obscurity to cult hero status in the city he would eventually call home.

I cried during the chant. Drew helped him out there to do the chant and the dome went nuts, then Gleason cried as we did the chant.
Wish you well Steve, truly a hero.

heartbreaking. I hope they find a way to help him.

72,000 people told him they loved him Sunday, myself included.

Gleason's block was the moment you knew the curse had ended.

This was so sad to see. This really sucks for this guy. and to see his decline is amazing. just a year or 2 ago he was running and playing football. he could barely walk and he to hold on to brees to make it around. very sad. im sure it felt good for him to receive the cheers he did for the game

Crusader 09-26-2011 08:06 AM

I had tears in my eyes when i saw him on the field. Such a sad story.

Euphoria 09-26-2011 10:09 AM

I have to say I was a big fan of his and always wanted to see him do something on the field. I met him on 2 occasions and he was a great guy!

I thought it was very odd and strange that he suddenly retired... it was really weird for me, with no explanation.

He really was good on special teams and made lots of plays and I paid attention to them because I was a fan of his, always knew where he was.

That block was something very special. One of the top five if not top three plays I remember like it was yesterday. There was this build up to it that was amazing. I was worried we couldn't contain Vick and energy level was up being the first game back in the dome and then we stopped them on the first series and the place was nuts.

Then it happened... punt seemed like any other punt then there was A very athletic small and not fast "special" special teams player coming around and then down the middle as soon as I saw him come thru the line I yelled "ITS A BLOCK" and bam it happened.

Steve - You're my Hero buddy.

ponchia16 09-26-2011 10:22 AM

At this point i hope that the Saints will retire #37.
God bless you Steve!

st thomas 09-26-2011 11:32 AM

Mardigras9 09-26-2011 12:46 PM

One of the best plays in Saint history. I'm with ponchia, retire #37

neugey 09-26-2011 05:56 PM

Steve Gleason should be inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame. Not for what he did in 2006 and before, but for what he did yesterday.

Belair57 09-26-2011 08:41 PM

dang man, I just teared up reading that. God bless you steve and your family. Your work is not done yet!!!
