Payton: Brees called entire game-winning drive from the field
METAIRIE, La. – With a few ticks more than four minutes left to play and the Saints down a point in New Orleans’ 40-33 Sunday win over Houston, coach Sean Payton did the unthinkable for a revolutionary offensive play-caller.
He let go of his offense, ceding power to quarterback Drew Brees. Oh yeah, and the ball was at New Orleans’ 7-yard line. “It really shifted when that happened, he got red hot and he was outstanding and had the protections going the right way,” Payton said a day later. Man that was fun to watch! :bng:

We may need to take this offensive pace throughout the season, they look more at home, more natural in that style of offense; Don’t know how many times this has happened but that was Manning type approach on that last drive; wonder how much the coach will continue to let Brees run it like that

The wife and I have been screaming that for the past few years. Sean needs to let Drew run the offense. Step in when need be, and discuss what you see that needs correcting/tweaked, etc, and let the NFL know that you have as much trust in Drew as Belichek w/Brady or Caldwell w/Manning. Enough of the thinking you are too smart for the game. We have become to predictable, and letting Drew run the offense will change that big time! IMHO...

I think he will know when it is time to let Drew run amuck, so to speak, but the thing that would scare me about that would be that maybe, just maybe, he would get the feeling he is not needed here anymore. Wouldn't want that to happen. |
Drew Brees is truly the best ! That drive was great !

I love the trust they have in each other. I don't think there is any other tandem like that in the league.

They sure have a good understanding of each others abilities. Like they can read each others minds!
