Saints placed K Garrett Hartley (hip) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Hartley's recovery timetable had him on pace for a post-Halloween return. John Kasay has yet to miss a kick, so the Saints may have decided it was too much of luxury to carry two kickers for another 4-5 weeks. The organization remains high on Hartley's future, so he'll almost certainly be back as the primary kicker in 2012.

Jackass gets paid to do one simple thing & he hurts himself doing it!!

We didn't have the injuries we now have three weeks ago.

Wise move. We're good at kicker with the old south paw...foot...whatever.

We need the roster spot. See ya next year Hartley.

Its a shame he got hurt in the first place but yeah,he'll be back next year. And I agree, it was a good move and while it was one they probably didn't want to have to make, now we need the roster spot.

I feel bad for the guy. And I mean that.
But then I speculate as to how many he would have missed by now, and I just let it pass.

They may have been contemplating a revolving door at kikcker for the next six weeks until Hartley got better. Looks like Kasay is going to work out so they can afford to let Hartley go. Good move. Now find another backup O-lineman for the new backup O-lineman, in case he goes down. Brees may definitely have to throw it away if 1-2-3 aren't open. Just throw it up to row 16 and avoid a bunch of unnecessary hits.

Its easier to swallow watching Kasey nail >50yarders

Undrafted. Suspended. Injured. Super Bowl Hero. Benched. Got Paid. Injured. Hopefully the staff will bring in some camp competition next year. It's incredible that Kasay was available.

If Brees has time to look at 1, 2, and then 3...he is getting enough protection, IMO.

I'd feel a lot better with Hartley attempting the Mid 40 to 50 yard field goals than Kasey. We will need Hartley back next year just for the range.

By next year we will hopefully have a new Super Bowl winning kicker.

When he is on the field he is generally a consistent kicker. He starts out a little off and then gets it together and makes the kicks we need.

One thing NO has historically been very good at is kicking Field Goals. We were spoiled with "automatic" Anderson for so long. I'm with you I get nervous as hell with Hartley kicking especially after last year. I do think he has great potential but he also has potential to shank it as well. You would think something so repetitive you can get it down to a science and kick all off season. But what do I know.

3 things in kicking. Snap, hold, and timing of the kicker. If any of these are out of sync the kick is probably missed. Not every miss is the fault of the kicker.
