I felt really bad for Carney after that kick, I mean one of the best Kickers ever and you are just supposed to make all extrapoints and that happens.

Ya know, in Carney's defense, now that I watch that video again, it looked like the sun might've been in his eyes. Either way, I still feel kinda bad for the guy. He's such an outstanding person, and was such a damn good kicker for so long, but he's had some really bad moments in his career, and that was certainly one of them.

That was a nightmare but luckily we have an elite club now and not just some wanna-be, tryin to be's.

The difference now is that under Haslett, there was this seat-of-the-pants mentality to everything, where you had to depend on miracle plays like that (or "Hakim dropped the ball" etc) to even get CLOSE to winning or being in the playoffs. Where as now you have a team that even when things don't go well for them, you come down to a methodical drive and the final play against the defending Super Bowl Champions, from the 1 yard line...and even if things don't end well, its still a legitimate contest -- instead of needing fluke plays like that ridiculous "Football Follies" highlight to have a CHANCE.
I know that the River City Relay was well before his time, but I happen to think that Drew tends to do really well in these kinds of games -- where there is a chip on the shoulder of the fans, or a ghost or an albatross or a painful memory or a payback or a rivalry or whatever. I think he gets really into that stuff and feeds off it. |
Rookie QB and a RB whose lips are dripping after watching the way we've been tackling.
This is just the kind of game I can't stand. Please, give me a blow out. PLEASE! Do not let these guys hang around where a lucky bounce, missed chip, or a bad call (or two) even matters. |
Since Gleason blocked that punt, we don't have that kind of bad mojo anymore. I really feel, that moment in time, broke the curse.

I was in my basement (where I lock myself for every Saints game - me and the public don't mesh well during my Saints games), and I was jumping around and screaming after Pathon got into the end zone on that lateral scramble. When Carney missed I must have held my head in my hands in disbelief for 10 minutes. Stunned.
That moment definitely summed up what it was like to be a Saints fan, and as stated above by FireVenturi, the Gleason block re-defined it going forward. |

Score early and often. Take their primary weapon (Jones-Drew) away and we sail. Muddle-**** around early as we are prone to do and it could get interesting.
