Saints face Jacksonville defense that doesn’t allow big plays
METAIRIE, La. – In the first three games of the 2011 season, the Saints have faced two teams known to harbor stout defenses.
Both times, against Green Bay and Chicago, the Saints simply put those theories to rest. Against the Packers, the Saints rang up 34 points and 477 total yards, though then were only 1 of 5 in the red zone. A week later, against the Bears, New Orleans put up 30 points and 382 total yards while holding onto the ball for 36 minutes, 14 seconds. And now they’ll match wits with Jack Del Rio, who has his Jaguars defense playing as well as any in the league. Full article below. Saints face Jacksonville defense that doesn |
Even though the Saints offense prefers "big plays" to score, this team is perfectly capable of mounting long sustained drives to score.
The Colts' D took away the Saints' long pass plays in Superbowl XLIV; they still lost because Brees and company settled for the underneath stuff. I see no reason why that won't be the case again in Jacksonville, if that's how the Jags' D wants to play it. |
Its not as if they have played any juggernaut offensive teams so far. I think we will open their eyes and light up their scoreboard too on Sunday!

I agree with the commish - Indy took away the big play & we still won. Just take what the defense gives us & go from there. Nothing wrong with gaining 4 or 5 yards per play.
PLUS - HOuston's "D" was suppose to be all that & well.... Look what happened! |
This is what concerns me the most about Jax. Last year teams played a lot of soft zone against us, eliminated the big play downfield and waited for us to make a mistake.
We are the better team, but this team's style of play gives us trouble. And if we continue to tackle poorly, MJD will have a huge game against us. |
They call Jermichael Finley the zone killer.
We have our own in Jimmy Graham. |
We got the "Sugar" Offense ... no worries on our end...

Bring it on. We could see a Brees successive completions record - of short passes. That will do.
Let's grind them down. |
