Can you tell me why, why, why do we still have Shanle?

I have yet to see this guy make a great play. I've seen him miss tackles and so far today he has missed a tackle and cost us 15 yards because he was late on his coverage.

BIGEASY504 10-02-2011 01:22 PM

Shanle must be married to the coach or GM or owner or water boy’s daughter or something. He’s a bland player, he doesn’t give any wow, he’s always in catch up mode and he never was really a point of attack type guy. He is wasting a spot I figure by the mid to latter part of the season he’ll be benched

Michigan_SF 10-02-2011 01:36 PM

Facemask penalty hurt the Saints pretty bad.

TheDeuce 10-02-2011 02:43 PM

Good question, and another terrible penalty on Shanle gives the Jags some new life.

strato 10-02-2011 03:37 PM

I guess because we have nobody else..lol

Crusader 10-02-2011 03:40 PM

Because none of the other supposedly great LBs on the roster have beaten him out yet.

Cory9289 10-02-2011 03:53 PM

Tired of him holding receivers...get faster and you won't have to do that Snailey.

Donuts32 10-02-2011 04:04 PM

Shanle unfortunately is the only option we have right now until Herring and Wilson get better. He is making me upset with all these stupid penalties he is getting.

Ding ...ding ... winner here ... hope one of our young LB's can take over soon.

I been sayin'...

homerj07 10-02-2011 07:25 PM

Shanle has got to know the fan base is against him - 2 penalties that did nothing but extend Jag-off drives.

papz 10-02-2011 07:32 PM

Why do we still have Shanle?

Because neither Casillas, Wilson, nor Herring are ready for full time jobs. We wouldn't have this "problem" if they step their game. Yes Shanle is better suited for a backup role, but so is everyone else.

Saintswrath 10-02-2011 07:39 PM

Shanle seriously concerns me as we reach the stretch of our season and start facing NFC Rivals.. Dude add's absolutely no value to this team other than filling a Uniform.. I can imagine we have some hungry Young talent that could easily replace him and get way better results out of em.

Im hoping Sean Pulls him into his office and he leave out with walking papers and a Who Dat T-shirt instead of a Helmet and a Check.

AlaskaSaints 10-02-2011 07:48 PM

Ooof duh!

Don't hold it back, wrath!

The guy has a heart, but no skills. He cost us points this game. He'll cost us a game this season. Not looking forward to that, but Papz is right, what else we got?

Alaska

Saintswrath 10-02-2011 07:51 PM

At this point, i'd be willing to sign some Good street talent that only know Saints Madden 2011 Playbook lmao.

Im serious.

EXACTLY.

WE HAVE NO ONE BETTER, PEOPLE.

DID WE GEAUX OUT AND SIGN ANYONE BETTER?

DID WE DRAFT ANYONE BETTER?

EVEN I HAVE TO SETTLE INTO MY SEAT WITH HARPER AND SIT BACK AND EAT SOME POPCORN AND HOPE FOR THE BEST...:bng:

RockyMountainSaint 10-02-2011 07:56 PM

When YOU replace him, come back and ask that question again.

I wish Fujita was still here, he isn't.

We are gonna win the Super Bowl this year.

Shanle, who is steady but not great, will be a part of it.

He is who who he is.

AlaskaSaints 10-02-2011 08:17 PM

He's like that A.D.H.D. nephew we all got; jumping all over the furniture and swinging from the chandelier. Everyone wants to beat him but the Sister would get all ballistic 'cause you're correcting her kid.

But when he starts humpin' the cat, I'm calling Child Protective Services!!!!

Alaska

QBREES9 10-02-2011 08:21 PM

Dam Shanle !!

xan 10-02-2011 08:37 PM

Because we just won't draft or bid for an FA with skills.

mapcow 10-02-2011 09:09 PM

because he can play and you can't.

lumm0x 10-02-2011 09:16 PM

I'd like to still have him as a depth player. I am tired of seeing him on the field though.

The younger guys have not done that so far.

alleycat_126 10-03-2011 04:29 AM

The funny part is, theres right now no one on in our LB core or on free agency that can fill the Scott Shanle position. Fujita wasn't that much better. I've slowly come to realize that we will be inept at LB behind Vilma until after Brees gets paid.

hagan714 10-03-2011 06:47 AM

the one position we did not upgrade in the off season thats why

Rugby Saint II 10-03-2011 03:33 PM

We addressed most of our weaknesses during this fast paced signing fury call free agency. I guess the staff thought someone would step up. I'm all for kidnapping someones LB'er. Let the Saintsations be the hostage negotiator.

44Champs 10-03-2011 03:42 PM

The old joke/question about a prospective player used to be "Can he play safety?" I think we've addressed that issue pretty adequately with Jenkins.

So the new question should now be:
"Can he play weakside linebacker"
lol

Saint_LB 10-03-2011 06:45 PM

...because they have a salary cap?

FinSaint 10-03-2011 08:24 PM

Shanle has been frustrating in the games this season, but the penalties are going to come because he's too slow to cover any receiver within the rules.

Still, I guess he's the best the Saints have at the moment for will, so he'll play for now... but I'm confident that Wilson will be the man at that position going forward.

AlaskaSaints 10-03-2011 08:29 PM

I want to be a team player and just go along, but Shanle frustrates the shat out of me.

Every time I see him walk away.

st thomas 10-03-2011 08:42 PM

the best thing we can do after the super bowl is hopefully get him a higher contract elsewhere. lol

Choupique 10-04-2011 05:13 AM

Hmm.

Vilma speaks very highly of Shanle. So does Coach W.

I'll take their word for it over a bunch of couch potato coonasses.

Try not to whine. Clap when they win... and buy the shirts.
If you're gonna gripe, freakin move to Atlanta, fair weather fans.

You're more like them. You'll fit in nicely.

Two Dat.

FireVenturi 10-04-2011 06:03 AM

I'm not going to speak for everyone else, but my opinion is that he is decent. Not a starter. He will make a good back up once some of the young guys step up.

Cruize 10-04-2011 06:55 AM

I had rather see a clearly more athletic Casillas make an occasional mental error while learning, than a vet who has no ability to make any play at all. Dunbar, Vilma, and Casillas should be the starting LB's for the Saints.

Yeah, like they would publicly state that they think he's rubbish if they thought so?!

And once again you show just how clueless you are... critically discussing players who play on a team you follow and root for should not be considered as a negative occurrence. If you really think about it, what we are talking about here is a fundamental pillar of a free society: the right to express one's opinion.

I do agree with you on that - especially with Shanle - things do sometimes get a bit too personal and as a consequence lose their significance in the discussion, but that is more of a sign of people here being passionate about the Saints rather than being purposefully hurtful.

With your black & white attitude and willingness to unquestioningly follow the Party line - you would've probably felt right at home in the former Soviet Union under Stalin.

SaintsBro 10-04-2011 04:18 PM

or what about Hitler? Can we bring some Hitler into the Shanle discussion somehow? It's not a real internet argument, until someone starts throwing Hitler out there.

AlaskaSaints 10-04-2011 04:32 PM

Yeah, well, Vilma and Coach W. don't get to watch the game from the best seat in the house.

And the guys who keep up with STATs like Shanle also, because they don't have to deal with him at all.

Shanle plays to the level of the Practice Squad. It's very unfortunate that Coach W. (whose coaching is SUSPECT as of lately) and Vilma, who doesn't do much Shanle-watching during a play I guarantee, can't see that.

Coach W. can't even see that his Corners are 10 deep on a third and 3 pass formation.

Go whine about my whining over on the Falcons board. You'll fit in well over there.
