Free Agency Move?
 

Hey guys.

I keep reading about our need to shore up our line at the DT position and I'll agree we need to make a move here.
I'm honestly terrified that Haz and co will be picking up a lineman from Georgia too high in the draft.

What do you guys think about picking up Warren Sapp on a 3 year deal to solidify the position for the foreseeable future?

Wouldn\'t bother me, some don\'t like Sapp, but he\'s never bothered me. We could use a vocal person on this defense, as long as we don\'t overpay for him. Plus, I would love it when we played Tampa. ;)

Hate the guy, always have.
It probably wouldn\'t be a bad move for the organisation if they only pay him for his play and not his ego, but I don\'t want him in New Orleans even if he plays for the league minimum. I\'m sure we have some cancer player already on our roster (Haz will tell us who it is in October/November), no need to bring in Sapp.

I think there are better players we can get.
Robaire Smith and Cornelius Griffin come to mind.
Besides, Sapp has played the 1-gap his whole career. I don\'t think he\'d do well at the nose or 2-gap.
We got one-gappers out the wahoo.

Griffin hasn\'t played the 2 gap since college. So I guess he\'s played the 1 his entire career too.
But I agree with what you are saying, and Sapp would not be an ideal fit for this team. We do have a plethora of one gappers.

I thought he played the 2-gap. I thought Hamilton played the 3 technique.
But you may be right. I can picture him alongside Stahan.
Oh well. Won\'t be the last time I\'m wrong.
That might be why I haven\'t landed that GM job yet.

I don\'t like Sapp either, but I think if we put him in a Saints uniform, we would like him a little better. It would be an upgrade in talent, without a doubt. I see no major problems Sapp has caused since he has been in the league. I think he would hold players accoutable on the defense and I think that would be a good thing.

If Sapp could still command a double-team then he might be a great help to our D. The only problem is I\'m not sure I could stand to watch him every week. I\'m sick of seeing him as it is.

I don\'t see how you could be terrified about that prospect. I don\'t believe for a second that there is any conspiracy on the part of Haz & Co to go after players from Georgia. I\'m 100% sure it is just a coincidence.

Ask yourself whether you would have rathered the Saints draft some player other than Sullivan last year simply because he was from Georgia even though they truly believed Sully to be the best they could get at that spot. If it goes in such a way that in this year\'s draft the best available player is another lineman from Georgia...I say take him. They can\'t afford to allow petty insignificancies (such as this) cloud their vision.

Sapp is the second best DT on his own team with a mouth three times as big as Joe Horn\'s. The guy will want top 5 DT money, and he is no longer a top five DT. Let him and TO go somewhere together and make out - just so long as it doesn\'t start with an N and end with an S.

Hmmmm...I don\'t think Sapp has a very high opinion of our team. I played with SU\'s marching band in \'98 and we got to talk with him on the sidelines. He called the Saints a bad team. Mind you, this is before TB even started their dominant ways.

Money talks though, it might mean nothing.
