Just three seasons removed from one of the most controversial and bizarre draft day spectacles in the history of the NFL, it appears that the team from the Big Easy is ready for more of the same. Anonymous sources close to the Saints’ brass have reported that New Orleans, which holds two picks in the second round, thanks to the Turley trade with the Rams, is prepared to offer both second round picks and its first round pick (#18) to San Diego for the right to pick first. The source wasn’t able to pinpoint the target of the Saints manuevering; however there is widespread speculation that the Saints could be learning what Indy knew several years back when they picked a Manning first overall;
that is: a Manning under center equals wins for an organization. It is believed , that under the tutelage of seasoned veteran Aaron Brooks, Manning could be the franchise savior that former coach Mike Ditka envisioned Ricky Williams to be. Many experts believe that Aaron Brooks would garner at least a first round pick in a trade. Some say just a first round wouldn’t be enough for the gunslinger out of Virginia, who once served as a Brett Farve backup. They believe that a package deal with a first round pick and top LB or CB included would be a fair if not good deal to perspective suitors of Brooks’ talents. Washington Redskins new head coach Joe Gibbs is said to be so enamored with Brooks, that a first round pick and disgruntled CB Champ Bailey as a trade to finish off the package deal would be acceptable if it were doable this season (2004). Attempts to reach Chargers headquarters were unsuccessful.
