Pipe Dreaming

Anyone that believes that the Saints will give up picks and or players and the bank to get Eli and that if done will change the immediate team record for the better must be on the pipe. This coaching staff knows it must win now, not later. Rookie QBs seldom have anything other than moderate success if even given a chance to play. By now everyone should believe that Haz is commited to AB. We need players not a single savior. All of the Brooks haters/bashers can't deny that other than the lost fumbles and a couple of picks that combined cost the team a few games, his play and stats this year otherwise was top ten. Did we all forget that from jump the D was a mash unit and until the last qtr of the season was the major team negative. The dropped ints coulped with the missed tackles were disgraceful. The special teams were anything but. Injuries on the O side of the ball were less noted but slowed the unit all year. Consider your two starting guards, right tackle, tight end, fullback, and fastest wideout missed significant time. The entire receiving corps had a ridiculous number of dropped passes, many that would have converted 3rd downs into 1st downs, several that were sure touchdowns. Our most productive wideout, Joe Horn, played all year on a bad knee without a threat on the opposite side due to Donte being out half of the year. Our inability to pick up a 1st down on 3rd or 4th and one was pathetic. Some of the blame there goes to the play calling as much as player execution as a defense playing short yardage D has a good chance to blow a play up and penetrate into the backfield when the play being run is a handoff to the tailback 7 yards deep. Late in the season they choose to go to the oldest play in the book, the quarterback sneak, and it succeeded every time. Wow! Bad officiating (acknolwedged by the nfl) contributed to a couple of losses. OK, enough of the 2003 recap. The point of the subject is that the team believes they are only a few players away but the QB position is not the one they plan on changing. I agree. We'll win more in 04!
