Payton from the booth
Coach is going to be play calling from the booth Sunday night. Me and my father have been arguing if this is going to affect the saints. I don't believe so, what does the black and gold fam feel about this?
|
I certainly don't think its gonna help. We probably just added a few seconds to the play call getting to Drew in time.
|
It's not going to help for sure. Manning would have had a field day this week.
|
But if you think about it, it could give Payton a better view of the field and what the offense looks like........just trying to find some positive in it
|
I have a feeling we may see a couple of timeouts burned because of this. Hopefully they do not come into play.
On a related note, I feel we would have won last week had Payton been on the sideline the whole game. All it takes is that one crucial play that he seems to dial up in all close games. Sure, his playbook was available, but the genius behind it wasn't. |

I believe at the start of the 2nd quarter there might be a few issues because the scripted plays will be done so Payton will have to start calling more plays based on the situation but i believe they will figure it out.

I've actually thought about this quite a bit. I see the good and the bad with it.
Like Strato mentioned earlier, I actually think it will help him because he will be able to see the field and the defenses better. He will be able to have some looks from there where he can really see whats going on and be able to call plays accordingly. With that in mind, I don't believe his absence from the sideline will make a huge impact on timeouts and/or the rythem of the offense. I do, however, think that his absence will effect the psychological aspect of some of his players like Drew Brees and/or some of the assistant coaches. There is no doubt in my mind that Brees is enough of a competitor and a professional to be able to handle it. There may be a slight dip in confidence by the team (and fans as well) if we get into a shootout and it comes down to the 4th quarter final game winning drive. Personally, I think this game will be a coming out party for the Saints. I'm not nervous. Drew is pissed about last weeks performance and will come out and shred the Indy defense. The run game will be good and the defense will get after the quarterback. |
none of this matters if we are puting the same D on the field that we been starting all year
|
There is no advantages. Seeing the field, he can see that on the jumbo screen. The sooner he is able to get on his feet the better but I think it will be a while. Hope they can rally and get through it.

You shouldn't argue with your father.

Probably will mandate a more complete gameplan from the start. It will allow Coach Payton to make better adjustments on the fly in play calling. Will hurt if the game is close and in the 2 minute offense. Drew should have more control of the playcalling this week in those situations.

It'd be cool if they could suspend Payton from those wires that they use to movethe game cameras all around the field. I don't think you could get a much better view than that.
|
Payton will get a better view from up there and be able to see things like a corner that can't keep up with Devery on a fly, or a cheating free safety that needs and good spanking. I'm just hoping he's able to see just how much beef is stacked in the middle when he goes to two tight ends on 3rd and short. I hope he gets an epiphany while up there and always has 3-4 receivers in the pattern.

I guess a Hoveround is out of the question?
|
A problem? Yes
A big problem...? No Get well soon coach - we are rooting for you!! :bng: |
Will be an interesting coaching matchup to be sure -- an "empty suit" coach on one sideline, with no ideas, and an empty sideline on the other, but with a coach up in the booth who has a ton of ideas.
|
I'd be alright with letting Drew call the offense.

I DON'T CARE IF COACH PAYTON IS CALLING THIS GAME FROM MARS BANGING SIGNALS OF OFF THE SIX WHEELERS THE SPIRIT OR OPPORTUNITY, LETS GOES WIN THIS THING.

two thirty burgers make a sixty burger, last i checked.
you could put the man in a damn blindfold, folks. |
I liked the Sunday Night Football camera shot of Sean they showed last night where you could see his reflection over the field. It looked so Sci Fi or maybe like it was Professor X's astral spirit over the field.
|
Drew called that game for the most part..
