Are the Falcons playing dirty? - From A Packer Fan

First I want to say that I do believe the Saints and the Packers are the best teams in the NFL right now...BAR NONE!! (one could starve on the difference)...You guys are a scary scoring machine with Drew at the helm.

On to my Question:

I wanted see what the Saints faithful think regarding the Atlanta Falcons shenanigans after the whistle during games...to get a view looking through Black and Gold glasses if you will...

During their game against the Pack there seemed to be quite a bit of shoving and even hits after the whistle on plays. The Falcons were trying to get Packer players to take retaliatory penalties.

When the Falcons played the Detroit Lions I noticed once again the frequent activity by the Falcons players after the whistle on plays throughout the game. Falcons players trying to get Lions players take retaliatory penalties for cheap shots.

Since you guys have more experience with the dirty birds being in the NFC south, do you all believe it is a conscious effort by Atlanta to play dirty?

Yep they are the dirty turds for sure..Suh called them on it...we HATE the FALQUEENS here in Saints nation more than any team..They get all the calls and play dirty ...im sure you will get some responses on this subject...And Welcome! ..i agree Us the Pack and maybe the {gulp} the 49s are the class of the NFC....Tampa ..Chicago...Lions.. Giants and the Falqueens..are not on our level..hope to meet yall in the playoffs in NOLA..would be a good game..

|Mitch| 10-24-2011 10:01 PM

Welcome!

And you seriously had to come on a Saints forum and ask what we think of anything related with the Falc'ants?

Hate is a strong word, but I absolutely despise the Falc'ants and their overrated quarterback.

And Mike Smith [coach] has told the media that he teaches his defensive backs to lead with the head and he can live with the 15 yard flags from playing "tough" defense [I believe that's how he put it]

I would assume the "whole" team is coached to play dirty...

EDIT:

Falcons coach Mike Smith said after the game he thought it was a legal hit and "that's the way we teach it."

Darth 10-24-2011 10:32 PM

WOW!!!!

I didn't know their head coach was preaching dirty hitting to his defense!

Even with these tactics they still can't seem to win any games...so i wonder why they suffer through all the 15 yd penalties just to lose anyway.

Ashley 10-24-2011 10:53 PM

I won't even get started on the hate I HAVE on athell. So to the play dirty question....maybe they do I can't really remember seeing anything that really stands out.

saintfan 10-24-2011 10:57 PM

Tony Gonzales is the master of the 'bait', and I truly believe he is as responsible as anyone for the way the Failcones take a NBA size flop at every opportunity. I believe he is the engine behind their 'tactics'.

They can't beat you straight up. Their running back, Turner, is worth a damn, and that's all they've got, so they have to resort to 'tactics'. They suck. And they blow.

I tend to agree with your first statement, if we meet in the NFCC game that will be kinda like the old days of 49ers-Cowboys when that was really the SB.
On to the birds, I haven't seen anything specific recently but since I never watch their games unless they are playing us or god forbid in the playoffs, its hard for me to say if they really are dirty. But I don't call them the Foul-Cons for no reason.

If he showed up with "a pair" at a Failcone board he'd be the only one there with a pair...

Gonzales flops like a fish out of water and sometimes he's not even touched. Homo. They get spots- I have no clue why- that are always extremely generous. They aren't that good. They'll be back to sucking soon. Old noodle arm cant throw the deep ball.

fhotard 10-25-2011 09:07 AM

Tony Gonzales will go down as one of the greats at his position. But, the dude has earned a few Oscar nominations for his acting ability. Over the years, I've seen him draw a lot of flags that shouldn't have been thrown. He knows how to fall down and make it look convincing to the refs.

As for the Dirty Birds, as a whole, there's a reason they're called the Dirty Birds.
We don't like 'em!

Mardigras9 10-25-2011 10:46 AM

Hard to accuse Gonzales of flopping when our own wonder boy Graham has turned in some horribly acted flops himself. As far as the Dirty Birds, they are just that.

Rugby Saint II 10-25-2011 12:14 PM

Atlanta is taught by their coaches to play dirty.......they know it, we know and it looks like everyone else is picking up on that.

JoanieNTX 10-25-2011 02:05 PM

As far back as I can remember, the "FLA-CONS" have played dirty. Can't remember ever being able to tolerate them. They're nasty, and they smell! :) And their coach is a big whiney baby who always looks like he's about to blow a gasket on the sidelines. Yes, they seem to always "get" the calls to their good, and they definitely do NOT deserve them. Mattie Ice is highly over-rated, too!

No its not. All I see Graham doing is bull rushing mother ****ers.

SaintsBro 10-25-2011 03:33 PM

Yes, it is a very deliberate thing they do, it's their mentality as a team, and I think now that they have been getting some media attention, more and more people from around the league and the country, are starting to see with their own eyes what Saints fans have known for a looooong time.

That quasi-fracas that happened before the kickoff at the Falcons/Lions game -- that was totally done on purpose, it was just stupid stuff to try and psych out the Lions and get inside their heads. It started when the Falcons basically ran out the visitors' tunnel and ran straight into the big huddle/crowd of Lions players who had just been introduced, where the visiting team clearly weren't supposed to be, just to mess with them. How stupid is that? It's like they're mentally two years old. So whenever the Falcons are outmatched on talent, they always do stunts like that, to try and get the other team rattled, or to get the refs scared of there being a bench-clearing brawl.

And their fans LOVE the dirty stuff. They cheer on their dirty players as their favorites -- the dirtier they are and the more fights and fines they get into, the better they are liked by the fans. They loved Harvey Dahl when he was on their team. Dunta Robinson is a fan fave of theirs, and he gets fines for spearing or illegal hits all the time, multiple infractions,so you can see it's obviously on purpose and not an accident.

Another thing I've seen the Falcons will do, that's related to the fighting and after-the-whistle stuff -- they will actually intimidate and berate the officials into giving them calls later in the game. They are one of the only teams I have seen, where you will see the players actually jawing at the refs after the play is over, as well as jawing at the other team. And I don't mean just the occasional "aww man, come on!" at a bad call, or looking around for a flag.... I mean sometimes on ordinary plays you will see Falcon players actually getting up in the refs' faces and yelling, violently pounding the ball in their fists, making gestures, getting up in their grill, etc. It is amazing that the refs let them get away with this stuff, but the Falcons do it all the time now, all game long.

RaginCajun83 10-25-2011 05:09 PM

Strange how the Falcons that play dirty are the one's *itching, moaning and crying about how Suh and the Lions "allegedly" made fun of Fatty Lice when he was on the field after his stupid lineman stepped on him ... like Heath Evans said today, shut up and play football

I'm still pissed off about them getting Julio Jones. He played right down the street from me and he's a really good kid.

Gawd its tough to pull for anyone wearing that Falcon uniform.

Don't pull for him. He's a Falcon now.

Read that article, Caddie! You might get disappointed in your team... Mike Smith specifically says he teaches his players to lead with the helmet...

This is your justification? Maybe we should tally the fines for each team so far this year. Wanna do that? Huh?

strato 10-27-2011 07:28 PM

Failcons have been getting exposed a lot lately both on and off the field..Teams are wise to their dirty play. If the refs ever catch up they wont win another game..

Thanks for posting. That's a fun watch. Looks like Smith is afraid of Harper.

Compare that bump of Harper's to the helmet leading hits of Robinson's and wonder if maybe you're turning a blind eye to the truth. This isn't the first this year that the Falcons have been accused of playing dirty.

jeanpierre 10-28-2011 05:47 AM

Do the Falcons play dirty?

How is that even a question?

xan 10-28-2011 08:54 AM

If you don't have talent, fake it.

If you can't fake it, demean the other side.

If you're not creative enough to distract the opponent, cheat.

If you're too stupid to cheat, do something illegal.

Criminals always get caught, because they are too stupid.

Sums up the clowns.
