New Orleans Saints sign tight end Tory Humphrey, release quarterback Sean Canfield
The New Orleans Saints re-signed tight end Tory Humphrey and released quarterback Sean Canfield. Canfield was signed on Saturday to be on the roster in case of emergency over the weekend.
Humphrey is a fifth-year veteran who spent the past two years with the Saints. The Saints have been thin at the tight end spot this year, and both backups David Thomas and John Gilmore have been battling injuries.
We'll be curious to see if the Saints also return tailback Chris Ivory to practice today. Ivory is eligible to come off of the physically-unable-to-perform list, but the Saints have been waiting to bring him back since they've been healthy at tailback. Now that tailback Mark Ingram is nursing a bruised heel, the Saints might want to get Ivory ready in case he's needed this Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.
Once Ivory returns to practice, he can practice for up to 21 days before the Saints need to decide whether to activate him, release him or place him on season-ending injured reserve.
