Malcolm Jenkins

Anyone else notice how big of a step backwards he's taken this year? Whether it's tackling or covering, he looks like Tebucky Jones back there. We can't play two strong safeties back there... something has got to give. In order for our defense to become dominant, I feel Jenkins needs to step up his game and lead by example. Those shoulder torpedoing tackles needs to stop.

Forget all the hype Malcolm and let's get back to the basics.

dizzle88 10-30-2011 03:54 PM

We need more solid tackling, I notice he just dives into people with his shoulder and that will not do!
Square up to the man, break down and explode through the tackle!

Maverick2299 10-30-2011 03:55 PM

He is looking like a rookie.

Belair57 10-30-2011 04:02 PM

Tesucky Jones was on a whole diff level of sucking than our boy Malcom

strato 10-30-2011 04:03 PM

Can anyone say Sharper?...not only for his play but he kept our secondary in order...better than the coaching staff.

Euphoria 10-30-2011 04:05 PM

I been saying I don't care if Sharper is a go or not... we at least need him on the sidelines. He can coach that secondary better than anyone.

But it isn't the reason we lost... the oline stunk and we have no DE's.

Yeah that would be the Rams D -line...

|Mitch| 10-30-2011 04:38 PM

O-line takes the blame for this loss in my book.

Drew was sacked five times and Chris Long was eating Charles Brown alive. Pat McQuistan played somewhat better when he came in, though.

Drew had his opportunities down field if he could have had more time in the pocket.

Maybe if we had committed to the run game early it would have been different, but who knows.

We need to rebuild the O-line and find ways to get consistent pressure without having to send more people at the QB.

papz 10-30-2011 04:43 PM

The thread intent isn't about who should take blame for the loss... just how much regression he's had from last year to this. He's a whole new player this year... and it's not pretty.

Euphoria 10-30-2011 04:44 PM

This is the way we lost to Seattle. They were suppose to have fix that and its been a FAILURE

He will wow you... then look like a rookie out of position...i think he is still young..and having Sharper in his ear helped..

He also had better CB/D-Line play last year to help him out. He's being hung out to dry a lot more this year...

Yep, he hasn't played well at all this year. Maybe we miss Dennis Allen (?) more than we realize.

Of course, without a pass rush Ed Reed would look bad too. We aren't getting pressure with our front four, which allows QB's time to shred any secondary.

SaintPauly 10-30-2011 06:32 PM

There was ALOT of uncalled holding, and chop blocking going on up front, by their offensive line. Not making an excuse, because that happens, but an observation. Malcom has regressed, no doubt. Needed Sharper for at least one more year IMO.

Maverick2299 10-30-2011 07:10 PM

I think he should get sharper back to teach everyone on the D, how to catch a ball.

Euphoria 10-30-2011 07:17 PM

We could have also used Steven Jackson as well.

joker-saint 10-30-2011 07:20 PM

How bout; Play Chris Ivory....duhhhhh.....we were short a running back, and it really seemed like we needed him when you add it all together. I cant wait to see Ivory play again. Hope its next week.

Marlboro Man 10-31-2011 01:09 AM

Run game? RUN GAME? We don't need no stinking RUN GAME!!

Coach Payton.

I agree Papz. Jenkins is late getting over in coverage. The first series if anyone else is QB the Rams score a TD. He just did get a hand on the ball to knock it away. Then he bit on play action and charge towards the line and again his man was wide open but Feeley over threw him. He's just not sure what he's suppose to do back there sometimes. His first job should always be to help come over the top in coverage and he's either late or not there at all. He's still young as a starter but he has to do a better job.

papz 10-31-2011 09:08 AM

Exactly what I'm getting at. Last year he was just flying to the ball and it looks like his mentality has changed back there this one. He's getting there at least 3 steps late on help over the top and appears to be looking for the big highlight hit instead of making a play on the ball.

I know we haven't had much pressure rushing 4 this season, but we have had success bringing 5 or 6... though it varies from game to game. Even when we are getting pressure, Jenkins still hasn't been in position to make plays on the ball when we were accostumed to seeing last season. I'm not even concerned with the lack of INT's, more or less PD's, getting a hand on the ball, or just being in the play honestly.

I hope he gets back on his game... we need him to lead back there. With the amount of blitzing we have to do to get pressure, his play is crucial being our safety net back there.

Euphoria 10-31-2011 09:14 AM

He surely could use another year or two with Sharper!!!

I think he played better as Sharpers back up and being tooled by Sharper. With no Sharper coaching him up and watching he is falling behind.

??? They DID play Ivory. Either I was having a major nightmare during the game, or Ivory was out there, too!

About MJ, he makes some brilliant plays. He is very athletic, and I think has been doing a pretty good job. Does he need some help out there? Probably. Noone can play "perfect" every week, but he's got heart in the game. Maybe I'm prejudiced, cuz I'm a Sharper, Harper and Jenkins fan. Love those guys! I'm gonna hang this one on the offense this week!

Mardigras9 10-31-2011 10:09 AM

All the DB's have been suspect at one time or another this year.

That is true, Mardigras9, because everyone has a bad game at some point. We have to remember, although it is tough, that these guys didn't even know who they were as a team for a while, due to the stupid lockout. I think to be the SB winning caliper team, they have to go all out every game. And they need coach P out there on that field to get them motivated. Can't wait until he gets back out there!

darstep 10-31-2011 12:15 PM

Our DB play, IMO, is a direct reflection and consequence of our poor play up front. Our front four has been terrible. Smith has somewhat held his own since he got back from suspension, but the rest have done near nothing. No pass rush to speak of and giving up groundage like its Christmas. Harper lives in the blitz package and that leaves Jenkins flapping in the wind if they don't get to the QB. It looks like confusion sometimes in the secondary. When that's happening I have to look to the sideline for an explanation. Fundamental tackling has got to return to our ranks. How long have we been calling for this?

strato 10-31-2011 12:18 PM

Just think if they get those sure gimmie picks Feeley was handing out..its Halloween take the candy...lol

Budsdrinker 10-31-2011 12:54 PM

Right now what I see is Porter needs the most help. Greer is covering his man pretty good and P.Rob can cover decently when he's not giving a 7-10 yard cushion. He needs to be up on his man at the line. Porter for some reason, maybe because he isn't 100% healthy or he doesn't trust his knee yet looks a little tenative on coverage and I would cheat Jenkins to his side for now or at least make Jenkins aware of what side Porter lines up on. Also we need to learn how to switch man coverage on crossing routes. Good lord we did that playing sandlot. Don't let yourself get picked on a crossing route. Good thing Lloyd drop the ball or that would have been a 68 yd TD.

True, would have been a different game even as bad as they were playing. Of course, with the lack of protection Drew had it may not have.

saintfan 10-31-2011 01:35 PM

Defense gave up 30+. They almost always do. The offense laid an uncharacteristic egg.

For the rest of this year you can expect similar results if our O isn't on target. The defense had a couple opportunities yesterday to get INTs and failed to make the catch. With no spark on Offense we were doomed.

You got that spot on! The O-line made Chris long look like a Greek God!
