I honestly don't blame this one on the D

We all know our defense is average at best. When the game started I thought they played good for the first quarter. They were forcing punts. Unfortunately, our offense stayed home. Or should I say our O line stayed home. We can't honestly expect the D we have, to stay on the filed that long and not start screwing up.

This one falls squarely on the O line and maybe even more so on the coach's.
Why are we not running the ball when we are playing the WORST run D in the NFL? It wasn't until after half time, that it seemed we started trying to run more.

Another reason I am blaming the coach's is how many more times did Brees need to get sacked before the coaching staff did something? Brown was getting owned by a player who was on the verge of being called a bust. Did we adjust and give him any help? I didn't see it. I remember we use to have to keep a RB to help and chip, when Bushrod was struggling.

So my order of blame: Coach's, O-line and wth Coach's again.

Payton's injury is clearing affecting this team more than any of us had imagined

strato 10-31-2011 08:58 AM

why we wait till the 4th quarter to try and establish a running game is beyond me..

Drew was running for his life ...and yet we continued to try and pass...

I guess nobody noticed how Dallas broke a record with a rookie running back against these chumps..

When the line wont pass block maybe we should try what the lambs did..Run the ball..

until we get balance we will be up and down..

Our D played well enough to pull this one out..when it was 3 -0 we panicked and played right into their hands..Drew with no time to throw against a zone team ...spells disaster..

Average gets you 8-8 or 9-7. They were billed better than average coming out of camp. So their are NO EXCUSES in my book. This D hasn't done crap to impress me and can't man up and plan D. 4th and 2. You know what they are going to do run the damn ball at the DE's and OLB's. of ours. We have no balls on D. Come one their only weapon was Jackson and we couldn't stop him. Yeah blame it on the coaching sure but there is no Steven Jackson on our D. No one is manning up.

I am looking at the big picture here and sure I'll cut the O some slack for having a bad game but that takes away from what the rams did and they played great D and deserved the win. They took it to us and got us when our hands were down.

It look like the Saints came out to run the score up on a team that said... oh no we aren't having that.

I was so mad yesterday that drunk myself in to a drunken sleep. I don't even want talk about them today. Chris Long look like a pro bowler last night and he's sorry ass hell.

I hear what you saying about the D. They didn't lose this one for us. Bottom line.
Someone on the coaching staff needs to go. The D has no discipline, they cant tackle, they take bad angles and they cant catch squat. If we have to rely on our D to win us games, we are screwed.

ScottF 10-31-2011 09:26 AM

I don't blame D either. Terrible play calling, Charlie brown awful and no adjustment made, Brees made a lot of bad decisions.
Sure, tackling was ridiculous, as always, but offense did ZERO to help out

Mardigras9 10-31-2011 09:29 AM

O-line, 6 sacks and pressure all day. We got our asses handed to us. Got to get it together before the next two divisional games.

So wait you don't think the D is important? They have to win games for us just as well as our Offense wins games for us. One has to help the other.

It became obvious that he is clearly needed on the sideline. Chaos.

winmill1 10-31-2011 09:40 AM

It was a hard environment to go in and win. They were coming off and embarrassing day and we were coming off embarrassing someone. That place was rocking with the World Series parades and crap. The Perfect Storm.

I think Long and Jackson are on steroids....got tired of losing. JMO. :)

Beastmode 10-31-2011 10:22 AM

I don't blame the D either, they stopped them on some critical drives. Rams also gambled on 4th downs. My only knock is watching time after time the ball going through their hands, not a tip but clearly in their grasp and can't snag it. We need those turnovers. I hope GW puts emphasis on this fact. Jackson again played like a monster but they slowed him enough to win. About 40 of his yards were given. He had two long runs that resulted in punts.

You just stated what we are all trying to say. One has to help the other. THIS game, the Offense did not help the D. Of course the D is important. I never said it was not. Instead of opening your eyes and seeing what the rest of us are, you keep saying D is why we lost.

It was our D that put the first points on the board. Get with the times man. This isn't the age of Defense wins championships anymore. Its offense wins championships and defense has to be just good enough to not lose games. Blame all these stupid new rules. It is what it is.

GeauxForMore 10-31-2011 10:39 AM

Yea the O had a bad game, but let be real how many bad games have the D had this year. Brees and company always step up every game and unfortunately they had a bad game like all great offenses have. When our D doesn't show up and our offense does we have a chance to win. When the O has a bad game and the D steps up we lose. Having a good O is a luxury good D is a necessity. But I do agree with everyone else coaching does need to be blamed.

And we blame the D every week....not this week..

darstep 10-31-2011 10:46 AM

Can not agree!
We should hold everybody to 20 or less, especially these chumps.
Steven Jackson's first +100 yard day since 07'.
What was so different about our tackling than the previous 50 games where he failed to break 100?
Backup QB, injuries and breakdowns that have resulted in zero wins until they meet us.
Defense has as much a part of this loss as the poor offensive showing.
If we hold them to their average, 9 points a week, we still win.
If we give them an extra touchdown just for shegrins, 16 pts, we still win.
This was a team PPP(piss poor performance), and the defense was a big part of that.

Haps Biggest Fan 10-31-2011 10:49 AM

The Saints are in trouble. The weaknesses are exposed.

strato 10-31-2011 10:50 AM

We would have Darstep..a pick six...a blocked punt...getting sacked and having to punt...and most important...no running game..how can a D hold up like that?

Supertek 10-31-2011 12:14 PM

How can the defense not shoulder some of the blame they scored 31 points on us. This from a team that should not have scored more thant two touchdowns at best.

are you kidding? the place was maybe 70% full. Tons of Saints fans.
It was so quiet in the first quarter you could hear conversations 2 sections over.
Our sh*tty play got the crowd into it

Mardigras9 11-01-2011 02:12 PM

The D has allowed most teams this year to stay in games, true. Yesterday, too many three and outs. No run game, Drew didn't have time to expose their weak DB's, all around bad day. Just glad it wasn't a division game.
