I say keep nicks, it was obvious from the tape that the tackles were the problem, i dont know whats different from 2009 that makes us not run the ball up the middle well enough, but jahri and carl are the best options at the position. Make charles brown and jermon bushrod eat dirt with no pay check for a week, then draft an OT, or get jamaal brown back.

Yep i agree...all the pundits are saying our o-line is going to cost us down the stretch..Teams will really try and get after Drew...we have to try and run the ball more or were sunk..Drew wont make it through the season..

I say keep him but don't give away the farm to do so. Something absolutely has to give with the o-line. If our running game gets shut down on a weekly basis Drew will do what he had to do last year, feel like he has to do it all and make poor decisions which will lead to more picks. I think the playcalling did us in yesterday. We just got out coached. Hopefully the play of the offense, especially the line, was just a bad day and they will rebound next week.

Well, if the season continues as it has to this point - at least Nicks won't be making the pro bowl. Nicks has definitely had some bad plays during the first part of the season, but I'm finding it hard to blame Nicks (or Evans for that matter) for the problems with the O-line.

The main problem has been with and caused by the tackles, while the constant state of flux with the center position has not helped things out either. Because of that, I'm hoping the Saints are able to sign Nicks to a fairly long contract, since changing the other guard for next year would be another new part to the O-line with - hopefully - at least a new RT.

Bushrod is a matter of his own, but neither Strief or Brown seem to be the answer at the RT, because I don't think Strief was very convincing before he got injured. RT and OLB should be the main focus of next year's draft, and hopefully the sub-par performances of this season will bring Nicks' price down a little for a very affordable contract.

I do not agree. Evans and Nicks are supposed to be our superstars on OL but they have a hard time creating push in the running game. That is unacceptable.

So, you don't agree with me on what exactly?

That the Saints should try to resign him?

That the guards haven't been the main problem with the O-line?

That making too many changes to the O-line for next year isn't a good idea?

That Strief and Brown are not the answer to making this O-line better at protection and in blocking?

That the Saints should focus on drafting an offensive tackle high in the next draft?

That having a sub-par season might bring Nicks' price-tag down?

I do agree with you on that the guards have not been performing at the level we all expect(ed) out of them, and that the Saints' running game has been very poor - which is in part caused by the fact that the guards haven't been able to open up holes through which to run.

But, they haven't been the sole reason to why the running game has stunk, because the Saints haven't been running massively better off tackle than off guard. Also I would say that the performances of the center and the tackles might have had a negative affect on the performances of the guards - both in the protection as well as run blocking.

And we should never forget about the play design side of the game, because the coordinators are supposed to draw up plays that take advantage of the strengths of the players they have and, at the same time, minimize the effects of their weaknesses to the overall success of the weekly game-plan as opposed to the D-line facing them on any given Sunday.

I'm all for improving the composition of the O-line, but I'm hesitant to believe that it will be an easy task to replace Nicks with at least as good of a guard for next season without braking the bank or the cohesion (the little there is) of the O-line.
