METAIRIE, La. – You could see it from your couch Sunday afternoon.

The downtrodden looks.

The forlorn body language.

New Orleans has a problem and it’s much bigger than the head coach being in the coaching box and the offensive game plan being head-scratchingly awkward and a porous offensive line that made it open season on the quarterback.

The Saints, at 5-3, aren’t who we thought they were.

Not right now.

They’re not the Super Bowl contender we thought they’d be. Nor are they one of the league’s top teams.

They’re like everyone else right now not named Green Bay – they’re fighting to stay at the mean and not drop below it.

That includes matching effort, especially against a winless team.

“If you want to be great in this league, you have to match their effort,” left guard Carl Nicks said Monday morning. “They came out intense (and) fired up and we weren’t on their level. If you want to be on an elite team, if you want to go back to the Super Bowl like we did before, we’re going to have to do things like that and really step it up.”

Tired of these gloom and doom articles. Every team in the league (even Green Bay) is having their own issues. If the playoffs started tomorrow, we would be a 3 or 4 seed and hosting a playoff game against a wildcard team. Definitely time to panic, NOT.

I hate posting articles after a loss because they're just so depressing and negative.

I think that his impression of the Saints not being who we thought they would be is that of a unrealistic sunshiner. If one was expecting us to walk into the playoffs and cake walk into the Superbowl, in my opinion, this is how that person would feel. We have enough talent and leadership on this team to beat anyone on any given Sunday. We layed a goose egg on Sunday and have been highly inconsisently showing we have trouble winning on the road. It is what it is... we are still one of the top NFC teams and a contender regardless of what happened on Sunday. One week we're on top of the world and the media is jocking our ball sack, the next week we lose and it goes to the opposite extreme. Funny how the media works. I'm going to use Atlanta as a prime example.

Prior to the year, many people picked them to win our division and gave them a solid shot at the Superbowl. They started off slow and everyone jumped off their bandwagon... everyone. They rebound and then beat Detroit... now suddenly you see people start piling back on the bus. The media sucks especially how they portray and flip things on a daily basis. It's all about what have you done for me last week it seems.

Face it... we weren't going to go 16-0. We're a playoff team. We're a contender. If you're a Saints fan or even a beat writer for the Saints... you need to believe it. Last time I checked we're 5-3 and contending.

I like Handwerger. I always post his material here for you guys to read... we've even done a Q&A with him for the site. But, this article sucks.

We're as good as any team in the league. There isn't one team out there I'd say was significantly better than we are, including the Packers.

You can't fault him for spitting the truth.
