Charles Brown to IR

Payton on WWL just reported. With hip flexor and surgery is scheduled.

Saints sign Ray Willis, OT

Strief to start at RT.

Saints placed OT Charles Brown (hip flexor) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It's a tough blow for Brown, who shined as the Saints' fill-in starter at right tackle with Zach Strief nursing an injury of his own. Coach Sean Payton revealed that Brown injured his hip flexor and will require surgery. He's been injury prone through two seasons, but should maintain a roster spot in 2012.

Might be able to help us

Ray Willis, T for the Miami Dolphins at NFL.com

Ouch. I hope Strief is ready. I don't feel real confident with McQuistin at all.

I know Brown was hot/cold, but he was better than anything else on our roster, which translates to "oh crap, you thought it was bad before..."

dizzle88 11-02-2011 02:14 PM

At least Brown can't get drew hurt from IR

Strief and Thomas..are ready...Vilma and Ingram maybe not..

jcp026 11-02-2011 02:47 PM

OH NO! Ray Willis wasn't on a team for a reason. Everyone is s***ing on Brown but no one played well last week. Until this past week everyone seemed to think he was the next big thing. This is a downgrade.

FinSaint 11-02-2011 03:03 PM

Brown just seems to be made of glass, which is a big part of the reason why he hasn't developed quicker. He performed better than I expected, but he would need to stay healthy for longer periods of time to really start evolving in his position.

Hope Strief is 100% and that he can perform at a higher level than he was when he went down with the injury!

Crusader 11-02-2011 03:04 PM

This really sucks. He ha a good game against the Colts good DEs, a down game against the Rams are a thing that can happen in the development of a young OL.

DAMMIT

OK, now I'm pissed. 8 weeks into the season, and we have 2 young backups starting, one injured veteran starting, and 2 guys as backups who've collectively seen 3 games action in 3 years each.

We say, "Oh, let's get Ivory back, he'll make a difference. We don't need roster spots for offensive linemen, what the hell do they do anyway?"

There've been several serviceable tackles on the open market that have been signed by other teams in the interim.

All people have done on this board is eviscerate the offensive line. Now, I fear for anyone who lines up in the backfield. Why not put pressure by screaming, "HEY GET A BUNCH OF LINEMEN IN CAMP!" rather than piss and moan who's going to get tackled in the backfield.

FireVenturi 11-02-2011 04:20 PM

64 will be back baby!!!!

We'd be wise to bring in some O-line insurance instead of activating a RB that we don't need.

Strief will do fine.

Ray Willis, I admit, I know nothing about. But man, thats a football name.

neugey 11-02-2011 06:17 PM

In related news, several Saints fans also damaged their hip flexor watching last weekend's game. :)

Marlboro Man 11-02-2011 06:18 PM

No loss. Glad Strief's back

neugey 11-02-2011 06:26 PM

Marlboro, I love the new Avatar and did I mention red was my favorite color?

TheKillerBs 11-02-2011 06:59 PM

Too bad for Charlie Brown... He must've injured his hip whiffing on a kick as holder Lucy yanked the ball away as he was about to kick it...

jnormand 11-02-2011 07:20 PM

Maybe it was bothering him during the game. That might explain why he was slower than a snail in a glue pot getting off the line!

No loss? Have to disagree there. The Saints are replacing a guy we knew about with a guy we don't know about. Brown may not have played well last week, possibly due to his injury, but I have faith in him as a backup.
At this point in the season the Saints are left picking up scraps. Ray Willis? Never heard of him. I hope he surprises me but he probably won't and I hope that we never find out.

I've heard of Willis..he is a big boy..but he was available for a reason...he's a guard... so i don't think he will be replacing anyone yet..just depth...we might look into another vet soon..who else is out there?..anybody know?

So I guess its great when our young players end up on I instead of on the field developing?

jeanpierre 11-03-2011 06:54 AM

Now Tackle position on both sides of the ball are a priority in the draft...

canucksaint 11-03-2011 08:34 AM

While not a great option, why wouldn't they think of bringing Jon Stinchcomb out of retirement... At least he is familiar with the line and the plays...

He has already lost too much weight...

Mardigras9 11-03-2011 02:01 PM

Hope Strief is ready and not being rushed back.
