Laser guided officiating ??
Laser guided first downs?
A new company has come up with a way to use lasers mounted at the top of a stadium to project a visible first down line on the field. It would be seen by officials, players, and fans. The line would be accurate to within one-eighth of an inch and could replace first-down chains and measurements. Southern Cal has approved its use, pending approval by the NCAA. The NFL has yet to approve it, although a presentation was made on the subject to the Competition Committee last March http://benmaller.com/ |
Laser guided officiating ??
Probalby not a bad idea...in the interest of the \"flow of the game\" we hear so much about with respect to instant replay...but why is it I get the feeling that it\'d take \'em a few years to \"study\" it. Seems to me that it\'d either work or not.
Maybe they see a lawsuit in their future. Player looks up to catch a ball. Player looks directly into the laser. Player freaks out somehow or another and blames it on the laser. NFL gets sued. Sounds silly, but I swear it\'d happen. |
Laser guided officiating ??
They probably only activate the laser when the call comes to check for a measurement .
My question would be if it goes down do they have a backup for the game ?? So if they have a problem does the chain gang come out ??? Would they eliminate the down marker guy ?? Probably show up in preseason football , then voted on the next year . |
