Vilma question re-visited...?
Can we win THIS game without his leadership? In his career with the Saints, it's safe to say he knows the Falcons offense about as good as anyone except maybe G.W., and he aint playing.
I don't have a statistical mind. Which game was it that he missed this year? Did we suffer? ......... In the locker room - "Hey, someone put a warm blood bag into the corpse over there!" "Which one?" "The number 58 corpse, you know... SHANLE! We need a warm linebacker body for Sunday." Alaska |
He's missed a couple games this year. He's also played in some where he didn't look so good. He's been somewhat injured.
|
You could tell the last couple of games he played, he was not himself. This is for the best. 3 weeks of rest and hopefully he should be back in business.
I will say, Jo-Lunn Dunbar has filled in pretty decently in his absence. He is getting everybody where they need to be and that's what we rely on Vilma to do the most. We haven't suffered in his loss to much IMO. |
Agreed, Dunbar has done a great job and stepped up.

Shanle has been playing like a mad man to...:)

Dunbar may not have the stoic presence of Vilma but the man can play. Shanle, I don't even want to have that conversation.

:computer: If Vilma is not healthy enough to play then I don't think that there's any question about whether or not the Saints will be better off without him on the field. Dunbar has played well, which is good because the Saints really don't have any other option than to start him as the MLB. GW has complimented Dunbar's football IQ on a number of occasions, so I think he'll be a good backup to Vilma as the D's QB. As long as the D tackles as well as they did against the Tampoons - I think the D will be fine against Matty Lice and the run. It was also exciting to see Sharper at the sidelines during last game - hopefully he'll be able to build up the confidence of the DBs, especially young guys like Patrick. |

The linebackers have been playing faster with Vilma being out, until he is 100% and shows it, leave it alone. Vilma is good but right now he can't help us on the field.

Some we have won and some we haven't, so the guy must be doing something right/better. |
Shanle is a good player, but he's not a spectacular player, so when he whiffs everybody wants to bring him down. I like him, and none of our hot shots have been able to displace him either.
|
I have to say Shanle is quietly doing well of late.
I mean he isn't fast, he isn't a lights out LB but he has come on lately and doing an ok job. |
Shanle can tackle, maybe, just maybe he is rubbing off on the rest of the defense.

:D

I have no problem with Shanle.

Since his inception into the NFL, which is 2003, he has 7.5 sacks and 2 int. 7.5!!! In 9 yrs???? Sadly, 4 of them came in the first year he played with us. 2 picks!!!! 2......but he is doing better...BAAAAH!!! He is crap, sorry if that offends someone. Need we say more about #58? SO you know i'm not making this stuff up, see for yourself and then come back and tell me he is even a mediocre LB. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/...9/scott-shanle |

Nope..looks like a Shanle support group...:) |
Shanle doesn't have the best talent in the world, but he is a hard worker who gives lots of effort. Believe me, if there is a better option available, that person would be starting. So far the Saints have not found that guy.

Hopefully Martez and Bussey develop and nudge him out of the top 3 next year. Boy, did the Herring experiment fail miserably or what? He was supposed to be the guy to edge out Shanle and I'm thinking he may be the worst LB on our roster right now. And there were several veteran options last year that we ignored. |

There is a simple answer to this... it gets tiresome to point out the same thing week after week. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...dead-horse.gif |
