Yeah i agree we have to get help at OLB via draft or free agency next year..
|
If, IF we can land a top-rate OLB next year we will repeat THIS year's Superbowl win.
However, we have no early picks, so a Ndamakong Suh is out of the question. Gonna be interesting at what we give away to get that low pick. Alaska |

Yeah that makes the Ingram pick hard to digest sometimes...he will be good..but there are RBs better or as good that we could have got in the lower rds and saved our pick..oh..well no regrets...like this guy in the 3rd http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/...demarco-murray |

One of the Gregg Williams patented "things" is finding kinda "no-name" guys and coaching them up to be decent for the scheme. All his defenses are like this.... No, Shanle is not MVP or Hall Of Fame type material, but I find it really weird when people get all psyched up over Gregg Williams defenses in one thread, and then turn around and bash on Shanle in another -- it's guys like Shanle who have made Gregg Williams defenses work, every place he's been. My take on Gregg Williams' "thing" at the linebacker position, both here and other places, is that it's based around having one excellent or GREAT linebacker, and then a bunch of faceless no names, who as long as they do their job, with a very strong secondary and a certain type of guys on the D-line, the overall scheme should work.
Of course when it doesn't work and it's directly Shanle's fault, that's one thing -- I'll yell as loud as anybody. But to me, griping about Shanle all the time is sorta like, I start wondering if maybe some people should go root for a different team, one that has a different defensive coordinator and a different defensive philosophy than the Saints. Because Shanle IS a classic Gregg Williams type of player, in terms of pieces of the puzzle. So were Fujita and Casillas and Clark and Dunbar, none of them are big names or "holy terror" kinda linebackers. This is not the Dome Patrol, and it's never gonna be that. |

The fact that the DC builds schemes which utilize the player material at their disposal in the best possible way they can does not mean that suddenly a player who's weaknesses are limited as much as they can be by those schemes becomes a good or a great player - the DC is simply doing his job as he is supposed to. Shanle is an average LB, who - in my point of view - is more of an liability than a strength in the Saints' D. If that makes me an unworthy supporter of the Saints then tough cookies... I'm not changing the colors I wear. |
Bottom line is he is not the whole issue on our D ...but get the most blame..right?

Naturally he is only one player and definitely is not the reason why the D hasn't performed as well as we all hoped it would this season, but as this is a thread that is only focused on Shanle - I stayed within that framework.
I think that Shanle probably gets more negative attention than he really deserves as only being one part of the equation, but the reason for that could be that he is consistently average (and below) and many of us were hoping he'd move to another team during the off-season, but that never happened. Also, it could be the frustration of none of the other OLBs stepping up to take his place. Whatever the reason, he is average and he has along with many others whiffed on many tackles this year and I even remember him whiffing on one on a run through the middle in the last game when the tackling overall was much improved. |
Do I want to ever play AGAINST Porter? - Hell no.
Do I want to ever play AGAINST Dunbar? - Hell no. PatRob? NO Villma? Hell NO But SHANLE? OOOHHHHH YYYYEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! With the exception of Spkb25's avatar, every photo ever taken of him was from behind and in COLD pursuit!!! ...But he's on our team. I get it. I just keep waiting for him to play ON OUR TEAM. Sorry, but mediocrity is what it is. A sickness that multiplies. Alaska |
