Saints D makes a stand
 

ATLANTA - The much-maligned Saints defense made a huge stop on 4th and inches in overtime and John Kasay kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime to defeat the Falcons 26-23 in Atlanta Sunday.

The Falcons went out in punt formation on 4th and inches, but Falcons coach Mike Smith called a timeout and decided to go for it. A run attempt was stuffed for a yard loss and the Saints took over on the Falcons 28.

A run, a pass for a first down and another tough run by Mark Ingram pushed the Saints to the nine-yard line, setting up Kasay's winning kick.

Terrific effort by the Defence the entire game!! That stop in OT was unbelievable....and it wasn't even close!! Who Dat!!

Inexperience in the defense showed late but I like that they hung in and made plays. Huge stops at the goal line to keep us in it. Kudos to the CBs

We made a few plays - the 4th down stop was incredible.

BUT we let DOuglas (who the hell is he??) Bee-atch slap us for 133 yards

I didn't like how our D played for most of the game. Poor tackling for the most part, Harper played lights out, Shanle played good," did you see those silk hands" cb's play got very spotty, it made Ryan look better than he really is. Our D should have owned their butts today, for some reason we didn't.

What I wanna know is, did the D take a photo on the Falcons logo again?

That was sure some good **** there! We wouldn't have seen a stop like that last year!

The D is schizophrenic -- it has a bigtime Jeckyl & Hyde thing going on. Sometimes it looks exactly the way it's supposed to look -- making stops, shutting things down, ratcheting up the pressure, and forcing mistakes -- and at other times, other drives, they just plain look like they can't tackle... some possessions they seem so bad that they look silly, almost comically bad. I mean if 7 guys can't tackle the dude, that's a problem. And I hate to say it on the day after a big win, but man -- with a 10 point lead with 7 minutes left, this game should never have been in overtime, and really should not have been that close. Offense and defense, fourth quarter with a lead, that's when you're supposed to STEP ON THE NECK.

Mike Smith was kind of in a no-win situation:

If he punts, people would say he didnt have faith his offense could get 6".

If he goes for it, people will say he doesn't have faith his defense could stop the Saints.

Yes, now we don't have to listen to John Gruden say "Matttty Iiiiiceee" all night. :)
