No i was saying that Greer is important to..he locks down and does his job..Harper does his to...i think you missed my point..two different jobs..happy for both...and glad they are doing it for us...both could be headed to the probowl..:) |
My observations of the defense and it really doesn't mean much because we as fans don't know what the defensive schemes are supposed to be but anyway here goes. Our DB's play with too much cushion. The birds had a 3rd and 7 on one play and Porter was 8 yds off the line, quick slant and the birds make a first down. And how do you leave the same receiver uncovered 3 plays in a row. Our DE's don't contain the edges, they crash in and most teams see this on tape and bounce their runs to the outside around the DE's with great success. DL's and LB's stay engaged with their blockers too long, now this is where I'm not sure of the scheme if they are supposed to stay engaged for someone else to make the tackle but after watching Patrick Willis with the 49ers yesterday he rarely engages with the OL, he comes to the line then goes straight to the ball without getting tangled up with blockers. Watch Vilma and he will come into the line and engage with whatever blocker comes his way. We either are not all on the same page when it comes to the defensive scheme or we just lack technique. I never played higher than high school ball but we were taught to always shed our blockers and get to the ball and I just don't see our guys doing that and I'm not sure if that's the scheme or just lack of talent.

when teams find more success running around our Dline than they do through it, then its not really the Dlines fault
statistics dont show anything about the defensive line and they cant. defensive linemen dont make tackles, they open up plays for other guys to make. DEs get sacks and pressures but thats about the only thing that shows up on the stat sheet dont ever blame the defensive line for not putting up whatever stat you want. stats are irrelevant when it comes to both lines |

Whoa nelly...not true..the game is won in the trenches...a dominant D-Line would make our back 7 look like probowlers..they play in spurts..with the beef we have we should be collapsing the pocket on a regular basis... |

Defensive linemen don't record a lot of stats and anybody that bases their arguments solely on linemen tackles and sacks doesn't really understand what their responsibilities are. Our linebackers aren't very good and even our defensive line that is built to be tops in the league can't make bad linebackers into hall of famers |

I have been happy with the play of Will Smith, Cameron Jordan and Tom Johnson this year. Ellis has been inconsistent and I haven't seen anything sniffing satisfactory from Rogers or Franklin yet at all. The interior of our d-line is what has been puzzling me. I thought going into the season that this 3 man rotation was one of the best in the league on paper.
