Do we even have a thousand yard rusher in the bunch!!!!
Bye week, nothing else to do but spark up some good convo!!! Two part question. I understand as the saying goes four in the hand (four Rbs), beats two in the bush (a Reggie Bush lol) but are we oversaturated at the position. If you were forced to pair down to only two running backs which two do you think would be the best options, do you think we have a hundred yard rusher in the bunch.
|
Well, I would think Sproles and PT. I think PT is capable of getting the yardage you are talking about. But with that said, any of our backs are capable of getting that yardage if they were the featured back. Your header said thousand but your post sadi hundred.

Forced to take only two of our running backs?
Sproles & Ingram are the two I'd pick... Sproles because of the yards he is putting up and his versatility, Ingram because he is young and has massive potential... |
For me it would be P.T. and Ivory, P.T is our best all around back by far, Ivory the most physical, that makes them a good tandem. I also think if we were a run team those 2 would be able to reach more than 1000 each. I love Sproles, he has fit Paytons scheme perfectly, I just don't know about a feature back, thats a lot of carries during the year, and as Mitch stated about Ingram that he is young and has massive potential I have not seen the field vision or the pure power he has to make a fair judgement on him. This is a good question, thanks for asking alleycat 126 really makes 1 think.

Since I'd keep three, it would be PT, DS & MI. Ivory is always injured and you can't play RB from the sideline.
|
PT and Sproles. However, I think that this offense needs a good blocking rb, and as good as these two are, a modern offense needs 3, so MI has to be in the mix, he's the better pass blocker.
|
Well....lol...Ivory had 716 yards on 137 att.. last year in 12 games for a 5.2 yard avg...
This year P.T is avg 4.7 yards a pop Ingram is avg 3.7 yards a pop.....so P.T and Ivory might be the closest to a thousand yard rusher we have RIGHT now.. |
What if's huh...?
Glad I am not the coach!! |

I do think that his pad level is off. He loses momentum upon contact. He needs to study the master of pad level: Pierre Thomas! |
Well I think either Sproles or Thomas can be 1000 yard rushers if we wanted it to happen.
At the mo' Sproles is giving 6.8 yards a pop and Thomas 4.7 yards a pop. Taking Thomas - that would mean "only" 14 carries a game. And in our offense, that should work because any defense would know what Brees would do if they went heavy on rush defense. BTW - a crazy ting I do is have a look at averages taking away the long play. For Sproles we still have a massive 6.2 yards a pop, and for Thomas 4.3 yards a pop. So give Thomas a workload of 15 carries a game and he is still your 1000 yard rusher. :bng: |
After what happened last year with the injuries to the RB's I don't think Payton will run one back enough to allow him to reach 1000 yards. Keeping them healthy for the playoffs is what he is looking to do. I love our situation with 4 very capable RB's the only problem is a wish we would run the same plays with all of them. We get to predictable when certain RB's enter the game. We need to keep defenses guessing. Throw the ball a little bit more when Ingram and Ivory are in there so defenses aren't sitting on run. Mix it up.
|
P.T. is our best RB, IMO. Love Sproles but he is not a RB. It almost seems we are watered down at RB with these four and none of them can get on a role.
|
Best bet for 1,000 yards on the ground given the carries - PT23 and Ivory
Best combo of the 4 - PT23 and Sproles Best bet for 1,000 yards in the next 3 years - Mark Ingram Best bet for the IR or another team - Chris Ivory Best situation to have in the league - New Orleans Saints |
Our Defense has "made" a few 1000 yard rushers...
|
Using DNA samples and cloning technology, we should set out this bye week to create a runningback named Pierre Ingram-Sproles. He would rush for 1000+ yards and be better than Maurice Jones-Drew.
|
I think we have four running backs capable of 1,000 yard seasons, and 1 on the practice squad, unfortunately RBBC usually prevents such milestones from occurring.
|
They aren't worried about individual stats because they're team players. Why are you?
|
x626xBlack, you could always become a Falcons fan or Houston fan instead of badmouthing your own team in such a disloyal fashion.
Fair weather fans aren't really fans. Got it. |
To me it's a no brainer.......Sproles is the team this year. PT when healthy is as good as it gets. He is the king of the screen and he was spectacular in '09. He knows how to finish plays and always falls forward. Neither one of these guys can be a featured back and make it through a 16 game season and playoffs. That's when you need a thumper. Now most of you would put Ivory up there as the best thumper we have. He has looked better this year with his vision and I don't think he's coughing it up like he did in the beginning. His down fall is staying healthy which is hard to do with this running style. Ingram has surprised me somewhat.....because I expected an immediate impact. He's been pretty good on the short plays and given us the tough yards. If we didn't have Sproles he would be having a bigger impact with a higher number of touches. We drafted Ingram then got lucky in FA.
I've got a feeling we are going to see a lot of all these guys as the year winds down. Next year we will be taking calls for trades. We do need a high draft pick. |
