Matchup to watch-Calvin Johnson vs the Saints defense
Thinking ahead to the Week 13 schedule in the NFL, the one matchup that stands out from a game plan perspective is the Sunday night tilt in New Orleans. Saints’ defensive coordinator Gregg Williams vs. Lions’ WR Calvin Johnson.
Here are a couple of notes I wrote down when looking at Williams’ blend of coverage and pressure vs. Johnson’s skill set. Continue reading. Matchup to watch: Calvin Johnson vs. the Saints | National Football Post |
Malcom Jenkins will have to cheat over to Calvin's side to help but I would try to put Greer on Calvin as much as possible. Noticed I refused to use Johnson!

We need to put Greer on Calvin, but they will try to throw the jump ball to him because of Greers height, mark my words.
We need to double him to be fair, can't let him have a big day |
He will be Stafford's saviour if we allow it.
Dizzle is right. They will test the waters when they have opportunity. They will try to get an endzone jump ball, or at least a 1st and goal PA flag on a short guy climbing a tree. A little cheat might get us a pick or two. I say a little because he will lean on his TE also. We can't totally sell out so that we expose our back sides. That could get ugly when johnsons are involved. |
Geer with Jenkins over the top, the rest man up on their receivers and Robinson should be able to play at least closer to his man instead of being on Canal St when he lines up
|
Pass rush and stop the run. Make them one dimensional and we can minimize the damage Johnson will do (not stop it, just minimize it).
|
Megatron will get his, just stop the running game and make them 1-dimensional. Then we'll be fine.
|
Luckily CJ is a larger target. Maybe the refs won't be inclined to call as many "defenseless receiver" penalties.
|
Maybe A-Q puts a couple of remember me shots on Johnson like he did on the giants reciever. A-Q is a thumper.
|
Stop the run, force them to be one dimensional and "maybe" we can get some pressure on Stafford...
If not; we will just have to out score them and win the time of possession category |
