I have been to many Saints boards to read about information that I cannot get through my local news. The internet only provides so much detail...So I rely heavily on forums such as B&G to stay current. I don't post much, but I read all the time.

Now the nitty gritty
Aside from the normal Brooks/Haslett debate, the other area that is common is how bad of a move it was to get Tebucky Jones.

I cannot see all the games so there is no way to analyze what he's done for the team, but isn't a deterrant just as good as a shutdown player? I mean you can't have huge numbers (INT's) if your not being thrown at right? I am a huge TJ fan, and I just want to here modest well rounded opinions on this.

If you had seen all of the games, you wouldn\'t have heard much, as far as his name being called making plays. I want to see how he develops during his second year in this system before I pass judgement.

I agree with B\'nB... TBJ needs more time. But I\'ll tell you this, that time needs to be spent working on the basics. Jones missed far too many tackles last season. I don\'t need a lot of INT\'s from a Safety But I do need him to stop some big plays. Jones needs to learn the system and learn how to make plays in it.

I\'ll agree that TJ may develop into a real big-time safety, and I also give him another year. However, he never developed in NE, under a coach known for getting the most out of his players, so it\'s hard for me to see him progressing under a coach known for gettting the least out of his players.

From a trade standpoint, it was a bust. We gave away high draft picks and spent a lot of money to get Jones in here and he\'s not devilering at that value. As a player, he\'s not much of anything. I heard his name called 5 times a game for missing a tackle and 2 or 3 a game for just lighting somebody up. The people I know that like him generally do so because every so often he just delivers a monster hit and gets everyone riled up. Other than that, he\'s OK in pass coverage and generally bad against the run. He needs to learn that you have to wrap NFL RBs up, you can\'t just hit the real hard and expect them to fall down.

I thought Jones did well in coverage last season, but had an obvious problem tackling. His biggest problem seemed to be wanting to lay a big lick rather than wrapping up and the team has said they\'re gonna work with him on fundamentals. I don\'t see it as a problem learning the basics as much as it is changing his attitude about how to tackle. If he continues to want to try to \"kill\" the ball carrier instead of wrapping up, then he\'s not going to improve no matter how much they work with him.

You\'re right Whodat, the trade really was a bust based on TJ\'s lack of run support and his inability to tackle; however, we didn\'t get burned deep last year like we did the year before -- at least not as often -- and I think TJ should get some (not all) credit for that.

The guy has MONSTER ability, and if he improves his tackling maybe we\'ll ease up on him a bit. It wasn\'t like the guy was constantly in the wrong place on the field...more often than not he\'d be there...he\'d just wiff on the stop.

It was a BAD signing... you don\'t pay that kind of cash for a free agent and wait until he develops a couple of years down the road...
you don\'t pay that kind of cash for someone who cannot tackle and has absolutely no instincts...

That\'s always what is disconcerning to me. You\'ve got to teach a guy that you\'re paying $30 million or whatever how to tackle? I know that the tackling in the NFL is bad now, but c\'mon. Just another one of Haslett\'s athletes. Maybe one day we\'ll get a football player.

with mitchell back this year t-buck will have to start all over again, he learned to play with bellamy last year and now he\'s going to have a completely differant style of player in the secondary with him
the scariest thing is that mitchell is known as a hitter too, if t-buck can\'t tackle because he\'s always looking for the \'hit\' then how bad off are we with 2 guys back there with the same \'hitting\' problem

Does anyone think they should resign Victor Green? I really like the guy, but with T-buck, Bellamy, and Mitchell, will this guy ever have a chance to play?

i say yes, he was a great support player who made several big plays that i can remember, ie, turnovers and i think he would be great on special teams coverage units

I think that he needs another year on this defense to pass judgement, but he does need to improve his tackling in the offseason. He seems to be like alot of the other safeties in the league who look to deliver the big hit without wrapping up.

\"Slow\" wasn\'t the only knock on Sammy if I remember right. I seem to recall that he \"wasn\'t good in coverage, strictly a run support DB.\"

Not that we\'ve had any trouble stopping the run since Sammy was shipped out... :casstet:

Sorry, losing Sammy really makes me bitter. Almost as bitter as not even making an offer for LaRoi, or totally running Willie Roaf out of town.
