Why Does Devery Henderson Start?

Here's the breakdown of the reps at each skill position: WR - Colston 46; Henderson 42; Meachem 31; Moore 19.TE - Graham 44; Gilmore 27; McQuistan 9. RB - Ingram 25; Sproles 22; P.Thomas 14. FB - Collins 25.

Do you think that Henderson is the Saints #2 WR? Why does he play so many downs but get so few passes thrown his way. Personally I love the guy because his speed is so important in stretching the field and he's a big time threat everytime he touches the ball and his drops are less than both Colston or Meachem. He also is effective in the running game.

Some of you guys wanted to get rid of him in favor of Arrington. :???:
Just goes to show.... :bng: He had no catches against Detroit. Great roll player.

Yes you did.

boonedocksaint 12-07-2011 01:11 AM

they start him because he's consistent.

i have no problem w/ colston and him starting and moore being the slot guy. they're all good. meachum is one hell of a backup!

I dont think the stats really mean that much. Devery's fine with me.

Its like a Melissa Etheridge concert.
Theres just not enough balls to go around.

I just spit-laughed

Clears out the underneath routes for Graham, Colston, Moore and is an excellent blocker.

Devery = Meachem

Both would have impressive stats on just about any other team in the league.

Euphoria 12-07-2011 08:01 AM

I would start my most fastest WR.

You got to have a deep threat and why not start the threat on down 1.

xan 12-07-2011 08:23 AM

Meachem got no passes thrown his way against the Giants, but had a huge game against the Lions. It seems that each player is sublimating his ego to get a ring, responding to the call, not complaining when shut out. Where do you see such little discontent outside of New Orleans?

You should rephrase your query as, why does any particular receiver get playing time or passes thrown his way?

The obvious answer is that every down is situational.

skymike 12-07-2011 08:35 AM

I dont think starting really matters in this offense anyway. Every ball handler, except Brees, rotates in and out.

I dont remember seeing Devery in that many snaps Sunday night. We used a lot more tight and heavy formations. I didnt see a lot of that spread out one where we look like the run and shoot.

Saint_LB 12-07-2011 08:43 AM

Cause he's from LSU and he puts people in the seats...and...what everybody else said fo sho. He spreads the field and SP likes to do that. He likes to open big holes in the defense so DB can throw poison darts into them.

He actually had the second most snaps among our receivers. Colston led with 46 and Devery was second with 42. He's an excellent blocker, makes safeties aware he's on the field, and produces when his number is called upon... it just so happens he's low in the pecking order.

Both Devery and Meachem play key roles in our offense... regardless of what their numbers suggest. And to top it off, you never hear a peep from either of them. Love them both.

he is the best streaker on the team

Rugby Saint II 12-07-2011 11:18 AM

Good answers one and all. Speed kills.

You never know who the #1 will be with Drew, he spreads the ball too well. The #4 option could be the most productive reciever on any given day depending on coverage.

Ashley 12-08-2011 07:58 AM

Devery!

Cory9289 12-08-2011 08:37 AM

Can I get a crack-back? :D

hagan714 12-08-2011 10:44 AM

ok cory makes a good point. while he is not the receiver i hope for, he has improved his all around play. you know i am not Henderson's biggest fan but i have to give credit were credit is due.

darstep 12-08-2011 12:31 PM

If Henderson can tie up a corner and a safety deep left, and take them totally out of the play,
I'm all for it. If he doesn't get any throws and everybody else can go off, that's even better.
It won't be long before the next team writes him off, then he can go for 6/130 and 2 TD's.
Geaux Tiger-Saints!

UK_WhoDat 12-08-2011 12:58 PM

That block for Ingram's TD

foreverfan 12-08-2011 04:18 PM

homerj07 12-08-2011 09:10 PM

Stretch the field & blocking. That hit he laid on a defender in the Giants game when Ingram broke the long TD run - awesome!!

Belair57 12-09-2011 12:21 AM

simple....because his name is not sproles or graham...thats the only two WRs Brees is looking for these days

pherein 12-09-2011 12:33 AM

Henderson will have the game winning catch vs Cheese Crackers in the NFC Championship. Because they will forget how fast he is, like every DC does Vs Saints.

Cory9289 12-11-2011 01:18 AM

That catch at 2:50 on the video, dayum :P
