Saints hope to gain confidence by winning outdoors
The elements haven't been kind to the New Orleans Saints over the years.
The 2006 season ended with a loss in the NFC Championship Game amid bitter conditions in Chicago. Last year, the then-defending Super Bowl champion Saints were ousted as a double-digit favorite at Seattle in the first round of the playoffs. Should the Saints (9-3) earn a return trip to the NFC title game this season, they'll likely face another big game outdoors. That's why today's contest in Nashville,Tenn., has drawn some extra attention. Not only would a victory give the Saints five straight wins and keep the pressure on the 10-2 San Francisco 49ers for the NFC's No. 2 seed, but the game against the Tennessee Titans (7-5) is the last one the Saints will play outdoors in the regular season. "You have to think that in the future to go where we want to go," Saints quarterback Drew Brees said, "we're going to go outside and play in tough conditions for our offense and defense and win against quality opponents in their neck of the woods, in tough conditions, so this might be one of those games that we need to make sure we're ready for."
