People complain a lot about Williams running blitzs, but I think a big part of it is wanting to ring the bell of the quarterback once or twice. There is nothing like putting that thought of being hit into the quarterback's head to get him to throw passes more quickly, and make mistakes. It's one of the intangibles one gets from Blitzing, in addition to the occasional sacks, and often leads to fumbles and interceptions, to state the obvious. Remember how all the pundits whined all year long about the D being so bad--but they got the job done when it counted, and after all the job isn't to keep the other team to 0, but to keep them from scoring more than your team. I mean, it'd be nice, but in the NFL, it is pretty impractical to think you can get zeroes. |
The facemask was unintentional but a good stop., He deserved the penalty but it saved some points.
Yes he has had a few stupid blunders the past few games. BUT If he was truely dirty the league would have busted him for it!! |
love being called dirty
all it means is that harper is getting in the other teams heads hes forced washington to think about him instead of the next play and that gives harper an advantage |
Harper is not "dirty". He is a hard nose player that knows how to lay a hit. I have to listen to games becuase I line in Los Angeles, and even the biased Titan commentators said that it was not a helmet-to-helmet hit.
That said, there have been so many rule changes that 5 years ago none of his hits would have been penalties. Yeah, the face mask was "rough" but it is no different that a PI where they tackle the reciever while the ball is in the air. I will take #41 any day of the week, because he has fire and heart |
Harper has mentally gotten into some of the players head although I don't think that's in his mind set. Saints had some bad calls against them in the game but in the Williams led defense mind state he encourage the hit. Dirty player no aggressive yes.
|
He saved a TD with that play. If the situation comes up I hope he does it again. The goal is to win, without getting anyone suspended.
|
What are y'all talking about? Of course it was an accident!

No Problem with Harper at all.
|
Me either, no problem with Harper except his pass coverage. Defense is suppose to destroy things, its their job. I would NEVER worry about how hard I hit a QB or any offensive player if I played on defense. IT really would never occur to me to care in the spit second I took a WR head off. Harper grabbed the WR shoulder pad then grabbed the face mask, and Im glad he did. Its better to get a penalty than a TD. It was a smart move by harper.
I don't have a problem with Harrison either, kill the firkin QB if he runs. Suh - is a dirty player same as hansworth, you don't cheap shot a player after the play over or you have an emotional problem. |
Like it or not, here's what the NFL says...
Saints' Harper fined $22,500 for two infractions vs. Titans - NFL - CBSSports.com News, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Fantasy Advice |
Palamalu gets RESPECT.
Why not Harper? Alaska |
That $22,500 fine was worth it, especially the face mask that saved the TD. It actually gives me more respect for him that he would put the Saints above his pocket book. And I think he would do it again if it come to saving a TD.

Didn't care for some of his cheap shot schiott that started at USC. Ronnie Lott - hated, I mean I hated, the 49'ers; but of all of 'em, including Young and Rice, I wish we had Lott most of all. He was as tough as they come and to geaux with Jackston, Johnson, Mills, and Swilling - it would have been the greatest defense ever - even with Toi 'Toast' Cook at cornerback... I don't like plays that Harper made - I understand what he did, but I don't like it as Karma has a way of coming back on your other guys... |
A couple of years ago when you could still play football, the face-mask that "could have" won us the game, would have been nothing more than routine hard football.
It makes me sick that with how flag happy Goodell has made the referees, we are now stuck with calling players "thugs" Next we're going to start calling all our DB's "dirty" because they are diving at the knees of the ball-carriers... |

Even though alot of guys on here have dogged Harper for years, he & Vilma are the best two defensive players we have. He has fire.....something that much of our defense lacks. He will be a Pro Bowler this year....and for good reason. Oh.....did I mention he is probably the best tackler on the team. He wraps up! So to the haters......get off Harper's ass. He's doing his job.......thoroughly. Oh....and considering that we have absolutely no pass rush whatsoever from our overpaid defensive line.....it's not an easy job.

Even though he's looked bad at times, I'd put Jenkins over Vilma too. |
Vilma has an excuse this year, coming off injury. That said, he needs to step it up if we're going to make a run at the Lombardi. Greer has looked solid, even stellar at times, this year even though I thought he would be a liability early on. I have to give him his kudos. Jenkins......I disagree. He has not impressed me this year like I thought he would. D-line sucks! Casillas over-pursues, but has a motor. Shanle......horrible. Dunbar has proven helpful.
Just my take. |

Shanle is actually having a good season as well. Can't believe ppl are still knocking him after the season he's having. He's been our best backer this season |

I know Vilma's hurt, but I'm wondering if its now the norm instead of the exception. Many said his knee problems would end up shortening his career. I hope we aren't seeing that come true right before our eyes. |

Our defensive line isn't being asked to rush the passer. Their job is to take on blockers. You shouldn't expect big numbers out of guys like that. Their job is not a glorified one but it's probably more important to the success of our defense than any other position Shanle sucks? All that means to me is that you have a vendetta against him and nothing can possibly change Ur mind. Comparing our 5 year starter to a guy who was more of a liability than leaving a guy uncovered? Ur hopeless |

Did you read the same thread? I'm stating I don't like players who have to resort to cheap shots - Lott didn't have to do that... DBacks that earn the intimidation factor on hard hits and great overall play and not cheap shots are players I really enjoy to watch... AND NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND... I was the 3 seed and lost to the 2 seed, so how did I choke? YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE TO GET UPSET IN THE PLAYOFFS! ;) |
I love Harper, think he's a great player for us, but yes, he's developed a knack for taking cheap shots. Wish he'd cut out the penalties, but I do appreciate the tough guy mentality.
|
I have no problem with Harper. He has some liabilities in coverage but there aren't many strong safeties that don't. They are predominantly box players. Harper is a fine SS and I don't mind the physicality he brings to the table. That facemask last week was meaningless. The guy was gone for a TD and that saved the play for the moment. Half the distance from the 4 meant nothing. Grab whatever you can I say.
