Are We Going to Try to Win This Game or Not?
Forget about the passing record. I honestly think if its more important to the team, Payton will take Brees out, and Brees wont complain.
Supposedly, the Rams chances against the 49ers are astronomical. I personally think thats bu******. The 49ers barely slipped by Seattle Saturday. Any NFL team can beat any NFL team on a particular day. And we are 2 notches better than the 49ers. I still doubt Alex Smith is a threat to blow up the world. We're 2 notches above the Niners, and yet the Rams beat us. All we need is for something to stir the Rams up. I want to clobber the slobber out of the Panthers and all the Cam-talk, regardless of the playoff picture. I want at least a 41-0 blowout over the Panthers to make this season complete. If the Rams would just play along, this could actually be a playoff game for us, and I want that atmosphere in the Dome Sunday. And I want to have a Rock & Roll Party Victory Parade down Poydras after the game. Tell me this isnt going to be our typical last-game-of-the-season-sleepy-hungover-noon-start-is-the-crowd-even-there?-routine-playing-out-the-string-season-finale ???? Tell me this game is worth attending. I'd go no matter what, but I'd like some help convincing my wife the jacked up New Orleans hotel rates, jacked up parking rates, getting a babysitter, renting a car, etc. will all be worth it. Are we trying to win this game or not? |
We will try to win the game watching the Niners Rams game. Once the game is no longer in doubt, we will pull the starting defense. Once Brees has the record firmly in hand, we will put the offense.
I expect no less than a win too. http://weightlossmaven.com/wp-conten...utrisystem.jpg |
glad you mentioned that, FF. I meant to, and forgot to put some sub-questions out:
1. Are we going to start our starters? 2. At what point will we pull them, if we DO start starters? 3. Will The Record be a reason for keeping Brees in? 4. Has Payton given any indications he's already given up on #2, and will simply start the backups and use this as our Bye? 5. Can our backups beat the Panthers? Would that be exciting? ---btw, about 2 in 10 Rams fans think they have a chance. Thats the fans, not the players: http://www.clanram.com/forums/f11/st...yniners-47139/ ... ... |
1. Are we going to start our starters? YES
2. At what point will we pull them, if we DO start starters? WHEN 49ers are clear winners and/or Brees has secured record 3. Will The Record be a reason for keeping Brees in? SURE WILL 4. Has Payton given any indications he's already given up on #2, and will simply start the backups and use this as our Bye? HELL NO 5. Can our backups beat the Panthers? Would that be exciting? NO THEY CANT WHO SAID THE SEASON IS OVER? |
Remember '09 when SP thought rest was more important than a 3 game losing streak (at Carolina)
Remember '06 when we could not improve and SP thought rest was more important (home vs Carolina) I see starters for the first half, a lot of passing yards, and then Chase & the gang in the second. Personally, NO, this game doesn't seem worth the expense you will pay. Put your tix on eBay and give someone who doesn't get to go too often a chance. I just sold my 35 yd line uppers for $265. I'll be there the next week and hit it that much harder |
Thank you very much, FF.
Good chance I'm gonna try to come see you, btw. |
We also have finishing 8-0 at home to play for. :)
That's not only awesome for this year, but a VERY intimidating stat going forward to next year. Problem with watching the 49ers game and pulling starters after it gets "out of hand" is that the 49ers rarely get a lead considered "out of hand" until the 4th quarter. The best thing they could do for us is to lose. The 2nd best thing they could do for us is to put up 35 in the first quarter... |

SF is an 11 point favorite and the ESPN Accuscore has it 72%-27%
http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/intel?gameId=320101014 BTW, we are a 9 point favorite (69%-30%) |
cheese! Im betting on the Rams to beat the spread--- seems like a gimme to me. The 49ers cant beat Vanderbilt by 10.
hate to say it, but I'd take the spread for us vs. the Panthers also, because of the good chance we will take out our starters. these Jimmy-the-Greeks are on drugs this week. Thanks so much for your help, guys. |
Come on man...
Injuries happen... with that said. We need to play to win the first half, and stay sharp. Although I don't see a need to "rest" the second half I mean what is that... nothing. That isn't a rest. So I can see them going 3 quarters at least and the game in hand then you can set a few players. |
The 9ers have no healthy receivers execpt for Crabtree. This plays right into the Rams weakness which is no CB's. I think this game will be a lot closer than people think. Unless of course the Rams decide to just show up which is looking like more of what will go down.

Here are my mixed bag of thoughts on sitting starters to save for post season.
1. If they are due a roster bonus they lose that. Hurts player. 2. I agree you want all of your players healthy and rested for the post Season. 3. If you are not going to play a game to win why play it at all. Forfeit and get even more players rested and healed. FWIW I think the Pro Bowl is a waste and should never happen again. 4. Lack of regular play can lead to some rust and timing issues. 5. This is one of my pet peeves... Not starting starters and losing a game that doesn't effect you, but does effect another teams playoff status.. **** Finally and most importantly... SCREW Tom Brady. I have had enough of his name along with a few others that are being talked about by the pundits just for sake of name.... If I have to hear just once "Tom Brady, holder of the single season passing record" I am going to vomit my self inside out.******* Start MF-n Brees..... Never pull him, and make him throw no less than 48 passes. Take this record, brand it with Drew Brees's and the New Orleans Saints name and seal this deal once and for all (or at least a few years). Do not just break this record, SHATTER it!:bng: |

Sad thing is that it may get broken in a few years, anyway, when the NFL goes to an 18 game schedule (as someone here already pointed out). 5500 yards in an 18 game season is only 306 yards per game. Drew will just have to throw for 6000 that year! |

When they go from 16-18 games THEN you put an (*) by the new record. :) |
screw Tom Brady indeed. well said.

If I'm the coach (and clearly I am not) I have decided that we don't sit anybody. Period.
The already injured or nicked up, like Lance, can have a seat and enjoy the view and the extra week off. Otherwise get your jocks on and get on the field. |
