Getting that '09 feeling again!
Back in Oct '09, I began to get the feeling that we were something special and that our guys were "on a mission". I could see and feel how our team really clicked. Last year, I never quite got it. It always seemed that as good as we were, we just never quite jelled, never quite got that fire that we had in '09. It just like it was just beyond our grasp. There were moments where it seemed we would recapture it but then, it was gone again.
Then last night as I was driving the big rig thru the back roads of Oklahoma, it dawned on me again. That same '09 feeling was back. I can see and feel the fire, the passion to be champions again. Our offense has jelled, the defense has too , both have improved, the cohesiveness is all there again too. No one & done this year. The Lombardi is coming back to New Orleans! |

We are playing smarter more disciplined football and we are peaking at the right time. One thing I find strange is that our defense got more turnovers in 2010 than we have this year but we are playing the best I've seen since 2009. You can tell the type of team the staff have tried to put together and they all gel and want eachother to succeed for the greatness of the team. You could see it when drew got the record, it wasn't just the staff, it wasn't just the analysts, it was 72,000 fans, every single player on the saints sideline and the coaching staff that all came up to him, I loved it when carl nicks picked it up brees |
I still don't know...
During the 09 season it was building all year. When they had to play big they did. When they needed a little luck, they got it. Things just fell into place and I haven't seen that this year. I am not putting all my money on this team just yet not just yet... after all we have to go to GB. We have not done well in the cold and that ground is awfully hard that time of year... just not sold yet. |
Let's not start s*cking each others c*cks just yet - The Wolf...Pulp Fiction :)
I hope this didn't offend anyone, that was not my intentions. I was just thought this was the perfect time to use that quote. |

"Getting that '09 feeling again!"
For old times sake! :bng: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=k7LtGOQ6ygs |
One thing the '09 season taught me as a fan, is that it is really hard thing to accomplish, for a team to win a Super Bowl. It is an extremely difficult thing to do. There is a whole lot of stuff that needs to line up perfectly or go your way, and luck always plays a part. I'm not making any bold predictions. There is a long way to go, but I will say this -- the offense looks amazing and the defense is starting to LOOK LIKE the '09 defense out there -- just a look, a hunch, a feel, the way they look on the field, the moment before the snap, the vibe the team puts out. But yeah I get a bit of that '09 feeling again in flashes.
And about being afraid of going to Green Bay....look folks...FACT: Green Bay is 2-3 at home in the playoffs in their last five playoff games there. FACT: The last ridiculous freezing bad weather playoff game they played there at Lambeau (2007 NFC Championship game, -24 degrees F wind chill) the Packers LOST. FACT: their run to the Super Bowl last year was entirely done on the road. I am not sold on the Lambeau mystique at all. Their impressive home record in the playoffs at Lambeau is padded by years and years of their long-ago dynasty teams in the 1950s and 1960s...but in recent years the current/contemporary Packers are actually below the league average in terms of winning playoff games at home in January. Just facts. |
The only thing that worries me that's different from '09 are the lack of defensive takeaways. Could prove to be very beneficial in the playoffs, especially if we go to Green Bay
|
We know that when the offense is playing well and the defense just eliminates mistakes we are extremely hard to beat. The problem this year with our run to Superbowl is keeping that up on the road where we have to go. The team is clicking at the right time of year and it is very exciting.

I was a nervous wreck in 2009. I kept thinking the wheels would inevitably fall off of our dreamwagon and we'd get crushed in a most humiliating fashion...
Old habits are really hard to break. End up like a dog who's been beat too much, and you spend half your life just covering up. That dog fought back in 2009. This year I'm not as anxious. I know we're good enough to win it all, but so are 3 or 4 other teams. I'm just enjoying the ride. |

BTW, we are 18-6 on the road the last 3 years. Thats best in the NFL.
|
I think this team is better than that 09 team too.I mean to dismantle the falcons like they did is just unheard of in saints football.the team just seems to be more better and more disciplined each game.I don't know about you guys, but I would send our boys ANYWHERE to play on the NFL.I know they're not scared so why would we be? WHO DAT!

But, the thing that worries me is an intangible which this article discusses: http://www.wwltv.com/sports/black-an...136387798.html . It is something about the will to come back when your back is against the wall in the second half. Remember in 2009, in the game against Miami and coming back after being down 21. Remember Meacham being an offensive ballhawk in the Redskins game? I have never seen ANYBODY do that in any game. It was shocking -- in a good way. While I don't want us to HAVE TO come back from a large deficit, it would make me feel more secure this season if we had showed this ability in the game against the Rams & especially against the Packers. But, this is where we are today. And all things considered, I feel a lot of confidence and a lot of hope for Saints 2011 World Champions. And, if that doesn't happen, I'm going to feel worse than last year. I think this team has a real chance, especially if they channel the soul of the 2009 team they refused to lose. REFUSE TO LOSE. REFUSE TO LOSE. REFUSE TO LOSE. |
