Interesting Essay about Falcon Fans!
|
Probably one of the better written pieces of perspective on a football team, their struggle for identity, their lack of identity, and how those factors relate to and reflect upon ourselves.
I felt every single word he wrote. Thank you football godz, there are still smart, well written, imaginative people left in this world!!!! Thank you PumpkinDriver for sharing this with the board. :bng: |
Good read... Interesting perspective as well...

He used 'deracinate' in a sports piece. Good stuff.

What a read. Excellent.

Thx guys, as soon as I read it , I knew I had to post it here. He really nailed it. Thats a large part of the reason that until Vick was drafted by them , I never saw a Falcon's fan. And being that I live in a military town, we have fans of all sorts of teams here.

That boy can write.
That was an entertaining read. Thanks for sharing. Alaska |
Wow - even thier fans think they are fair weather fans!!

"But geography exerts an overwhelming and perhaps final pressure: You start by rooting for the team from where you're from; you end by rooting for the team from where you end up"
I TOTALLY DISAGREED with this line of the article. I live in California and I will NEVER root for the 49ers. NEVER. Nor the Raiders. Hate would probably be too strong -- but I could never love them even in the same universe -- as I love the Saints. And, when I went to last year's game at CandleStick, sporting my black and gold and a halo -- the 49ers fans were nasty. But, the WhoDats were EVERYWHERE. It was awesome. |
