NFL Network: Rams want Greg Williams
NFL Network just said the Rams are close to hiring Jeff Fisher for their new head coach, and Fisher wants Greg Williams for defensive coordinator. The Rams just continue to find ways to screw with us!

NFL Network's LaCanfora on Williams' future
Inside Slant on NFL Network this morning:
LaConfora speculates that Jeff Fisher will take the Rams HC job. His history with Gregg Williams goes back to the Oilers. Williams' contract expires after this season. LaCanfora says that Gregg loves Sean Payton and The Saints, but Williams is a Missouri guy. Says that if Gregg goes with Fisher, expect Jack Del Rio to be our new DC. I guess I would be happy either way. |
win-win
Spags would be a good choice too. |
I can go either way, i must admit that our lack of turnovers is frustrating, and that is supposed to be Williams's specialty.
|
The thing that i really like is that there is speculation that proven coordinators would covet a job with the Saints.
In years past, NO ONE with anything on the ball wanted to be here and ownership wouldn't pay them what they were worth anyway. My my, how times change....... |
Luckily there are plenty of nice options if Williams were to leave. I would love to see what Williams can do with a full season of Wilson and Junior starting.
Spags is strongly rumored to the Eagles and I would absolutely cream in my pants if we got him. Del Rio is a good defensive coach, just not HC material... both strong options. Hell I'd even try to get our coach back from the Broncos... they've been pretty stout. |
I hope we keep GW. If not, I'd love to see Del Rio.
|
I don't think GW goes to another team to be a DC...
I don't see him leaving to be a HC. He loves him some Bree's and Payton. |

I think the GW era is over. Our defense is just not solid enough for me to say "we need to keep him". I think anyone would be an upgrade at this point. We also need some personnel changes on the field. Just imagine if we had a lights out Defense to go along with the offensive juggernaut
|
All we need for a great defense is 2 strong young bulls at DT. And the Saints pick in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft is, get this " Mister Cobbles" great name. I would love to get this guy. Linebackers are in place but a new DC might bring one in that fits his scheme, I also think Vilma want be here next year. More thoughts later.
|
Just noticed, our defense has only let up more than 20 points twice in the last 6 games, and in those 2 (Giants and Vikes) the game was 42-17 and 42-13 (respectively) before they got to 20 points.
Sorry to say, but last 6 games- D isn't giving up a a lot of points. I think this is an extremely valid point to consider. |

You can say anything you want about Jack Del Rio, but his defenses have always played tough, solid football, and have been consistent. Even this year, when the Jags were pathetic, the Jag D was ranked 6th in total yards. If he can field a 16th ranked defense in NO... |
Sure Rams, let's talk Gregg Williams. Let's begin with your first and second round draft picks and go from there.
|
How are we going to get draft picks for GW?
His contract expires this year. |
#1 CB - Robinson
#1 FS - Jenkins #1 DT - Ellis #1 DE - Smith #1 DE - Jordan #2 SS - Harper #2 CB - Porter FA ML - Vilma FA CB - Greer Err... shouldn't the defense be better? You can't say that they didn't spend enough picks on defense. |
Del Rio returns home? hmmmmm i like GW but it would be interesting.
Del Rio was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 3rd round of the 1985 NFL Draft. His 11-year career was spent between the Saints (1985–1986). he got traded to KC. a trade i hated at the time. For those of you old enough do remember his claim to fame in KC? During the strike year he body slammed the player union rep at arrowhead stadium. the bad part he was caught by the media and made most of the front page of every sports page in America. New Orleans Saints (strength and conditioning coach, 1997–1998) |
