Brees: I want "X" amount of money for "X" number of years or you're going to have to franchise me.
Saints: Rather, we'll give you the years, but we're bringing that "X" number down to "Y". Brees: Nope. Needs to be "X" and "X". I gotta feed my kids. Saints: Okay, here's what we'll do. The number is "X" and the years are "X", just as you wish, IF you win the Super Bowl. If not, then the years are still "X", but the number is "Y". Brees: Aight 'den Loomie. "X" and "X" it shall be. I'm going to Disney Land... So that's why he hasn't signed a deal. He's got a little wager with Loomis on whether or not he wins the Super Bowl.
