I was thinking finally, we're going to score without a fumble right away, and giving away points, but nope...3 yard line, and a helmet to helmet hit on a defenseless receiver (not sure if that applies to Thomas, but they slo-moed it, and it was), caused the penalty and the fumble. No such luck, 7 on fumble, another 7 on interception, and 3 more later.

You can't really fault the defense--if you give up all those turnovers, you're going to have a tough time winning. I'm just surprised we stayed in the game for so long.

Thomas was likely going to be our tough runner of the game, and "bam" he's out right away almost.

Sorry, I can't fault the D here--this was on the offense.

We scored 34 points! The D lost this. How can anyone possibly not see that?

OK, that's a valid point. But do you put any of the blame on Gregg Williams? Is he the guy you want long term as the DC?

Yes. His play call led to Vernon Davis's gain that lead to Alex Smith's TD.

Is he a long term DC? No. But we knew that when he was hired.

Regardless of the points Boutte, regardless of how many players redeemed themselves.... YOU CANNOT TURN THE BALL OVER 6 TIMES IN AN NFL GAME AND EXPECT TO WIN JACK SQUAT.

The D did lose this game, but Drew threw some picks, Sproles and others holding the ball like a loaf of Bunny Bread (in a divisional playoff against the best D in the league) didn't help, I'm sure.

I'm shocked we were even in the game at halftime.
|Mitch| and Rueben Mayes like this.

Agreed

San Fran averages 23 points and 310 yards per game

Versus the Saints - 36 points and 407 yards

Our Defense stunk it up.
